Review Sites owned by Hosting Co's:
I know this is probably a normal thing, but I just came across a instance where one site is writing reviews, and guess who their number one host of the year is??
(their own hosting company, first year in business)....
I only mention this because one should probably pay attention to these low lifes as they seem to deceive many.
What brought me to the site to begin with was a new client at the company I get my reseller stuff from, was actually turned off by this guys "overdone" slamming of another company....in fact- maybe all should read this review and witness the wisdom and professional way in which it was done:
http://www.internet-hosting-report.com/hostnexus.php
So- warning to anyone reading reviews from http://www.internet-marketing-research.net/
My opinion- all their reviews will be very biased (look who Host of 2003 was its first year in business)
Pathetic.......should at least have a disclaimer on the reviews.....0

I see a lot of sites either owned by ipowerweb or sponsored by ipowerweb that amazingly think ipowerweb is the the best host in the world.
they tend to have URL's of the form:
expert-amazing-hosting-resource-net.com
another I often see guilty of this is lunarpages.com

http://www.internet-marketing-research.net/forums/

I must say on a professional level, that review will discredit anything the author ever has an opinion on.
Regardless of my thoughts on HostNexus or any host for that matter, this is apparently a direct vendetta against them for whatever purpose.
If it isn't poor business practice enough that he dedicated 3 pages to targeting HostNexus on a personal level, the mere fact that the words "Scum" and "Liar" appear in the review is just an insult to anyones level of maturity.
Final Thoughts:
- Site is not a true nor reliable review source
- Author is aimed toward publically ridiculing HostNexus
- They should spend more time reviewing there legal liabilities as to the slander and public emberassment of a name such as HostNexus and save themself the legal fees of a lawsuit, rather than the personal venture of a biased review.- Tim0

Yes i see this often with Host Review sites and its usually frowned upon here at WHT.
There are some "unbiased" hosting review sites around but even with them sometimes Hostrocket or ipowerweb seems to be the #1 service and i bet theyve been paid an awful amount of money to put it there.
its pretty sad that hosting directories do this but they are out there to make money like anyone else although they are being paid to "fix their results" it ends up being worse than Soccer (Football in the UK)
cant beat good old word of mouth reviews0

Looks to me like the "author" is just some pathetic little kid looking for his 15 minutes of fame on the Ricki Lake show.
Laurence I'm sure has a few customers as a result of WHT and I haven't seen these kinds of comments here.
Sounds more like a vendetta than anything else.0

I can't WAIT to see what Lawrence says about this bad boy. That was a very scathing review, and I'm quite sure that Lawrence would have ground to stand on, copywrite wise and slander wise.

The "author" also fails to mention that he owns his own hosting company, which is advertised on the marketing site, but seems to spend a lot of time slagging other companies.
How much creedence would you really give the the ranting of a competitor?0

I skimmed the article in question, looked like most of those posts were out of context. Every server has downtime, if someone is claiming 100% uptime for an extended period of time, I'd be very worried.

I have a slightly different idea about what integrity is. I tend to believe that by pandering to various groups, you're simply showing a lack of integrity. As CEO of V7 Inc, I can say with confidence that our hosting is lifestyle neutral.- Tim0

He may be confusing Lunarpages owning these companies with the flooding review sites.
If you look around all of the "review" sites, you will see a trend of all the same companies at or near the top. They are either paying for advertising or they are shilling the ratings by having people sign up with false reviews.
If you compare the lists with real customer comments from non-payed sources, ie: WHT, you will find a large discrepency in the reviews.

That was the most negative site I have seen for a long time...
Slamming both Ev1servers and Rackshack including a personal attack on Robert Marsh. And it's not for the SCO deal.Good Web Hosting Info - Information about web hosting0

http://www.webhostingunleashed.com/
http://www.web-hosting-reviews.org/ (notice the links on the right - and guess who is number two!)
I like this "based 50% on Users' Ratings and 50% on our Lab Tests" (taken from the last site I listed) no mention of what kind of Lab Tests these are my guess would be "has our cheque for $$$$ cleared from lunarpages yet? It has? Great! *click* *click* *click* wow, we just did some tests and now we think lunarpages are one of the top two hosts on the net!"
I got those links from the first page of the Google search "web hosting review" without the comments, they're just a small selection of the kind of stuff I find all the time.

These types of biased reviews are found all over the net and its kind of sickening to see how many of the Worst hosts in history get the #1 award for "TOP HOST" there is obviouslly money involved and the type of money that most small/medium time hosts can only dream of.
its not worth the time trying to compete in hosting boards anymore..... (I cant say what id like to say to all these massive biased boards that would love the money rather than honesty but it does include the words "Kiss" and "my")
Thanks0

We already had this discussion. Lunarpages does not own or favor any web hosting review sites. Take this forum for example! Do we own it? No! Do we spend money advertising our products here? No! Why does the people using this forum recommend us?
I guess it is just time to bash on Lunarpages again.I like to help0

That site is such a joke.
1. If you pay him $700.00 (in blackmail money) he'll post your site on every page...and I bet you could get a good review if you paid him that much.
2. If RS has indeed continued billing him for all these months why has he not done either a chargeback, or had his bank put a stop payment on the charge.
Am I the only one who balances my "checkbook" and statements each month?
In fact all of my server bills and such come out of paypal, and I look at it daily, and would know immediately if something was amiss.
It wouldn't take me several months to figure out where my money was going.0

If you want to say that it's affiliates and you have nothing to do with it, fine. (that's what it looks like to me) But don't compare honest good reviews here with one of those sites and then go playing the hurt puppy dog routine with the 'Mommy, they're bashing Lunarpages' silliness.0

So you spend no advertising dollars with any of those sites listed, and you don't encourage any person to go there to submit reviews?0

We don't pay more or less than anyone else in our industry.
We do operate our own affiliate program, we do have an affiliate program with CJ. But so does a 100 other web hosting companies.
No, we do not encourage anyone to go submit a review on someone elses website. I will however respond to any reviews made if possible.I like to help0
