Mail Server problems
Hi all,
I have a reseller account with an un-named hosting company (at least until I get some support queries answered anyway). I am not into downgrading a hosting company until the last straw.
Over the last 3 weeks I have been experiencing some problems with mail response times. These downtimes can be over 5-15 hours in delay time at a time. As you can probably imagine it is starting to be pretty frustrating for myself and my clients.
Unfortunately I dont know where to even start looking myself. I have just sent off a support query to my host but I havent been that confident with his technical prowess over the last 6 months so I am not all that confident he will be able to help.
Before I make a decision to start looking else where for a new hosting account where and what can I look for myself. Sorry I am a web designer/ programmer so my server tech knowledge is definitely not my greatest asset.
I am running in a C-panel environment as below; (hopefully this may help someone with some tech knowledge as usage and everything else looks ok to me)
Service Status:
apache (1.3.29 (Unix)) up
bind (9.2.2-P3) up

Any help would be appreciated. By the way my suspicion of support from this host has just been confirmed as I just got a reply saying that the owner of this hosting company has been ill and I have just been passed off to his friend who is now looking after all support.
So a second question will be what is a good reseller and account for up to $45 per month?
regards

Basically, your saying you send a mail from an address to an email address on the server and it is delayed 5-15 hours?
I would need more info but at this point I would ask the host to make sure the DNS is setup properly (specifically the MX records). Also you might want to tell him to enable DMA on the hard drives (will give a nice hard drive io speed boost). He could also easily reinstall exim (the mail server) by typing /scripts/exim4 in shell.
I can help you more when you give more info.
As far as finding another reseller account, you could browse this site, use search engines, or browse our offers on our site.

Hello
The best place to find out about the delayed emails is the header information. The header will have the times received by each connecting mail server. Before blaming the host I would look at the headers.
If you would like you can post the headers of a delayed mail here and I , or others can give you more info.
If you are using outlook you can double click on the email then go to tools / options I believe, you will see a pop up with the header inside. Copy that and paste it. I am not in a windows enviorment right now.
Once you can determine where the delays are occuring, then you can decided whether to move or not to move.
