    Cron Daemon

    Ever since I terminated this one account on my server I receive on average 4-500 emails a day about Cron Daemon on it. Here's one of the many receieved;

    Date: Tue, 20 Jan 2004 19:50:01 +0000
    From: Cron Daemon <[email protected]<myserver>.com>
    To: <my email>
    Subject: Cron <[email protected]> /usr/bin/mrtg /etc/mrtg/mrtg.cfg
    ERROR: CFG Error in "workdir", line 0: Working directory /home/<username which was terminated>/public_html/mrtg does not exist

    As I said I get hundreds of these all saying the same thing, how do I stop them and how can I prevent it happening with another account?

    Thanks in advance

    crontab -u username -e and delete the entry for mrtg from there (replace username with his actual username)

    Thanks for you suggestion. It returned this;

    [email protected] [~]# crontab -u djmixes2k -e
    crontab: user `djmixes2k' unknown

    As I said the user's account was terminated some time ago and I assumed their crons would have been too?

    Hmm that is odd, do a crontab-e and make sure he didn't somehow add it to the root cron. You can also type

    service mrtg stop

    to stop those

    [email protected] [~]# service mrtg stop
    mrtg: unrecognized service

    Anything you know of that could be another issue here?

    You can try doing checking if /var/spool/cron/djmixes2k exists and editing/removing that.

    if its a BSD based server take a look in /var/cron/tabs/ and remove the users file and the mails will stop
