where should I colo? west and east coast

I'm looking to colo few servers instead of getting dedicated server as it would lower down our cost by half.

2 locations:
Anywhere in West and East.
Offers cPanel license under $25/mo
Quality bandwidth (must be multihomed at $50/mbit or proven to have 99.9% uptime)
10mbit burstable port
no limit on number of servers colocated

Add-on:
un-metered IPs or generous
100mbit burstable
Willingly to replace faulty hardware for FREE
Free shipping

Any idea? I am looking into Global Compass (cyberwurx) @ East coast because I have server with them and very happy with them, however their bandwidth is way above our budget.

you might have to commit 20mbit or more to get that price...

I don't think many places will sell cpanel licenses below $25 if they aren't for a dedicated server that you are leasing from them.

At $50/megabit, you're looking at a lot more than 20 megabit commit for anything decent. Above.net is $60/megabit at 45 megabit commit (just to cite an example).

Yep, and if you wish for Multi-homed bandwidth and a QUALITY provider with people in the DC if you need help, you're looking at much more. The current market price for a couple megs of transit is 100+/meg.

To be frank, I don't think you're even in the ballpark for the price on quality Multi-homed bandwidth. My comittment is way beyond your needs and I can't get it for that price.

Of course if you're willing to be hosted on oversubscribed/oversold networks and garbage bandwidth go ahead.

When both the oceans flood our servers will be save here in Ohio. Nothing bad ever happens in Ohio. mwhahaha

Seriously you should consider just putting something in Chicago or Texas. I would have agreed with you a few years ago, but there is so much fiber in the ground getting from the west coast to the east coast really doesn't take too long.

Not knowing what your application is I could be completely off base. It sounds like money is an issue. If your pitching your pennies on CPanel then you might want to save your dough and just get one site.

I would have to second that. Not just because I run a colo in Texas but on the west coast you have a couple of problems. Earthquakes (causing Fiber cuts and power problems) rolling blackouts and high cost of everything. East Coast you have some largish power problems. Here in Central texas you have a stable power company (no roling blackouts) and no earthquakes.

This isn't even close to being realistic. First of all, I don't think cPanel partners are allowed to sell licenses to colo customers at anything less than the External price, which is $45/month or so. (Correct me if I'm wrong.) Even if I am wrong on that, a cPanel partner NOC needs 175 cPanel licenses to make their price $25/month/license, and that's going to be hard to find with any colocation provider.

$50/Mbit, as others have said, is ridiculously low for quality bandwidth on a couple of servers. Expect to commit to at least 100Mbit to be able to obtain that price.

Whether you're getting IPs directly from ARIN or from a provider, IPs cost colocation providers money as well. Although most providers will allow a small number (generally 10 or less) of IPs for free, don't expect to be able to source entire class C's without paying for them.

Replacing faulty hardware for free -- again, this takes time and money on the part of the colocation provider. Someone must diagnose the issue, pay for the hardware (and since you've paid for the server, why would we do this for free?), and spend time repairing the system and making sure it comes back online afterwards. If you want this, buy a server from Dell or IBM with a service contract -- but you'll pay extra for the privilege.

Free shipping? I can see providers willing to do this, but not at the margins you've presented.

The picture you've painted simply isn't realistic. Raise your prices on bandwidth. Also, I would recommend buying your own cPanel licenses -- if you buy several yearly licenses at a time, for instance, cPanel will give you discounts. We've switched to DirectAdmin at this point to avoid the very problem you're seeing with cPanel, and we have just as many happy customers on DA as we do on cPanel.

Thanks for all the great advices, never been into colo, therefore not certain with the price.

I will study more about it and ask for recommendation later when I'm ready.
