    Thumbs up Managed.com Support

    Hello,
I am not a particualr fan of managed.com, and I plan to move my servers out, but heres my support log.. I am impressed..

    3/24/2004 is the date
Times are in EST, managed.com is PST

7:15PM my server mysteriously crashes, i send a reboot email
7:18PM Server reboot reply: kernal panic, do you want an os-reinstall? I tried serveral times to reboot.
    8:10PM asked how much a os-reinstal was
    8:15PM replied it was free
8:30PM told them to reinstall OS to freebsd 5.1
    9:05PM server online, os-reinstalled, 35 minutes for os-reinstall

I don't know, their network isn't too good, but support is speedy =P

You should try their support for several more times before jumping to conclusion

But glad to know that they have helped you out.

Is it even possible to reinstall Freebsd in 35 minutes?

They must use a network image or they have hard disks already installed and ready to go. Pretty impressive for Managed.com

Either way, it's always good to hear good things about a company. Especially after so many terrible reviews.

Actually, it's kind of a mixed bag for them...

You got speedy response, but I have been waiting for 24 hours and I asked about a server payment.

Sometimes, they are very very quick.

    Sometimes, they can be slow...

Actually, you say their network sucks, but I have been getting good speeds on their network lately.

Aye - surprisingly, it's possible to install a minimal FreeBSD installation via FTP and reboot in less than 10 minutes. That includes everything you need to get going.

If my DSL connection was faster in Calgary, It would probably go in 5 minutes!

I was referring to how they tried to install BGP and failed.. How my traceroute to xo.net from my box goes thru above.net... How my server loses connection atleast once a night.. Besides all those problems, I do get 100mbit when I need it, if thats your only requirement for a good network.

It depends on the server. Usually I can get a FreeBSD 5.1 install complete within about 10 - 15 minutes on an extremely fast system (Dual Xeon, SCSI etc).
