AMD Alton XP and Xeon ,which is better?

Hello
I am having a very busy site and it look like my box can't handle it anymore . so what will be better between this 2 config :

1 Box : Dual xeon 2.8 , 2gram , 73G SCSI 10K RPM

VS

2 Box : Alton XP 2.6 1G ram 120G 8mb IDE , one for apache and one for SQL .

I here a lot of good thing about Althon XP speed , a Alton XP 2.6 is alway faster than a Pentium 2.6 . Right ?

No, it's not always faster, but may be faster in some type of operations.

Regarding your config:

Dual xeon 2.8 , 2gram , 73G SCSI 10K RPM vs 2 x Alton XP 2.6 1G ram 120G 8mb IDE, I'd choose the Dual Xeon. Reasons:

1. Instead of having 1GB in a server running apache, and 1GB in a server running SQL, you'll have 2GB for both. This may look the same, but it's not.

2. A Dual Xeon 2.8 may support a heavier load than 2 Athlon XP 2.6, as you can share the load of SQL and apache between the processors (also consider hyperthreading), what won't happen in different servers.

3. SCSI is much better than IDE for disk intensive applications as sql, and is more reliable.

Xeon hands down due to the 2.8GHz proccessor and the 2600+ PR rating can't match it, the SCSI drives and extra ram.

i have a couple of amd servers i dont admin them but i check them from time to time, they run great i dont know what u have going but on 1 amd system is a 2.5 ish 1 gig ram 1 60 gig

on that server they have a forum 65 normal active users, game server stats, and a game server, ftp, and more. seems to run fine.

the line that its on is unbeatable, it hosted at Level3 Com, Cali Silmar its good to have friends

sorry for being off topic

but i would say the Xeon SCSI is great -ie i dont know what your doing

oh shaving cream.. I didn't see you had two AMD boxes. I would go with the AMD's int hat scenario.

I'd still get the Dual Xeon, for the reasons described.
