    Stopping Directory Browsing and Surfing

I read it somewhere that someone said that if a directory did not have an index.html (default page), index.php or .htaccess file in it, then it is browseable (i.e. you can see the files of the directory there).

I am sure there should be a way to stop this right? Currently I found this to be true... all dirs on my Raq that did not have a default page or .htaccess and if you typed in the url, you can see the entire directory contents...

Anyone got a better solution? Or do I have to go to every directory and place an index.html file there to stop people browsing it?

    Thanks in advance!

i believe you can do this in httpd.conf

find 'Options Indexes' and remove Indexes. I think this will disallow directory browsing server wide.

Check the srm.conf or the access.conf files in /etc/httpd/conf

Yes that worked! Editing the line with "options indexes" in the access.conf file in the above directory worked!

    Thanks all!

Also, you can do this on a per site/directory basis with a .htaccess file.

    Options -Indexes

    Will remove indexing.
