Replies in the Requests forum

Is there something wrong with the system; or have replies been enabled in the Web Hosting Requests forum?
I know the "Read Before Posting" is still there saying there will be no replies.
But, it's suddenly gotten quite busy there.
I've never liked the "No replies in the Request forum" rule. But, I haven't seen anything about it being lifted.

Maybe a mod could clarify.

After speaking to Chicken, he recommend I post a reply in the request forum (offering our services) and to see if it disappeared... it did not, and it looks as if it started the many replies trend again...

Unfortunately, no one told me anything either way and I haven't found out. Matt replied there, so I'm assuming he knows, heh. My guess would be yes, you can post there. Please none of those, "I've emailed you" or "Check your PMs" ...

Let me understand?

So what you are saying is that anyone can post a reply now in the Request forum? Why? It was working fine the way it was. It was very clean and working well.

The next time I suggest someone make an announcement, this way 1 or 2 companys do not have exclusive rights to posts there.

This is just not right.... The rules here are made up daily and flap around like a flag in the wind.

Angry This is not right!

This is not right.. BurtNet and others are replying to posts from as far back as 2 weeks ago. I sold to some of those customers on 10/22 or before and now more offers are being made. This is not right! I demand that something be done to stop this madness. People should not be making offers to posts older than 1 or 2 days. (I think it should go back to the way it was with no replys)

The way it was before was nice. You can see the requests as they come in and they stay in the order they came in.

Chicken.. Matt... Other Mods.. This sucks that you are letting this happen. It is just not right.

It's only up to Matt.
You should contact him with your concerns.

Hold the phone!

I like being able to reply again. Reason - I just replyed to a post 15 minutes ago. In fact, the only reply at that point.

Since that post, 3 people have visited my site (yes, widely differing IP's) checking out the post.

That's what I like, reply to one and get 3 back. This IS an advertising forum afterall!

Thanks Matt!

I agree. I like the being able to post replies. It helps a lot. I hardly ever even sent offers to those who had requests when we could not post replies.

The upgrade from VBulletin v2.0.3 to v2.2.0 replaced the custom filters hack added to the scripts.

I've now disabled replies the request forum until I can sort out some new filters to stop the email sent crap and old posts being dragged up. Once its open to replies fully again I will make an annoucement, until then (hopefully within a week) please use PM or e-mail.

Thanks!

Thanks Matt!

It has been getting out of control, too many replies to requests 3 weeks old. No way to tell what is a new and current request. Moderators deleting replies to requests when it does not match exactly what the person asked for..

It was better the way it was.

Remarkable...

Just because you didn't get to post your offer and advertise for your company bedore others doesn't make replying to requests wrong. You had the same chance to reply to posts as anyone else. If you didn't notice like several others did including myself... WHT seemed to die out, and become much less active with the request replies off, and obviously wasn't that great of a move considering they were turned back on. Arguing they shouldn't be turned on just because you weren't able to reply at the same time as others with your offers isn't a good argument in my opinion. I assure you that those people from days ago were sent an email offer by those companies, and I doubt your customers are going to just drop you for them because a simple reply was made. I'll stop... My point is the board overall did better with requests on, and wanting them off for your own personal gain is wrong.

Note: As you'll notice from his post, he didn't turn them off for good, they were turned off to stop people from replying with posts like, "I sent you a PM." Until he can get the filters back in place.

As you'll notice from his post, he turned off the replies because it was getting out of hand. Matt specifically said:

Which is exactly what I had a problem with. I'm sorry.. I think you are totally out of line with your comments to me in this forum. This thread was dead for what? 4 days. Why bring up old news..

Well, right now they are on. I can see two advantages to them being off. One, we don't have to deal with it, heh. Two, requests are in order and stay in order.

If they stay on, people can reply with questions, discuss the request/offers, say that they've picked a host, etc. People can also look for similar requests and see if an offer matches.

Personally, I don't care much and will let Matt decide how he'd like it run and if he asks for my opinion, I'll let him know, and if he asks for your opinions, I know you'll give it to him.

The point is for members to be able to ask for things they need and the hosts here to get some business out of coming here, without spamming the rest of the forum, and I think that is accomplished either way.

This thread wasn't dead, it was about 4th the list. Maybe a few days old, but o-well. (Not like I went searching for an old thread to comment on, I also meant to reply a couple of days ago, but got sidetracked)
I have to add one more thing... you don't want replies on, but... I guarantee your new customers were still getting new offers after they choose you. With the replies on they can say they have decided on a host, and most of the time they will stop receiving offers.
