What is this 90 second rule on WHT?

I just got a message saying my posts have to be spread out at least 90 seconds apart. Why is this? I can type really fast!

Is it possible to get a moderator to change this rule on my user???

Open up another window on another mboard and post there, then here, then therer, etc... The 90 sec rule is mainly to keep not so nice people from spamming the boards real bad.

set up a polll....I think its not a good idea...some of us can read a thread in 3 sec and reply an insightful/interesting/funny idea. I do think 30 seconds was enough to keep spammers out...and if some still do, there are moderators, arent there?

  6. #6
I think it's a good idea, just slow down, or browse other websites too.

This has been discussed countless times. Premium members have it at 30 secs, we're at 90 secs. They're not gonna change it because of YET ANOTHER thread.

Just ran into a few more times. I think it should be down at 30 regardless of premium or not. and premium should have it removed.

90 seconds is a good rule.
Yes, there are moderators, but they should not have to spend their time cleaning a dozen threads that some hit and run spammer decided to post.

With the 90 second rule these guys are weeded out quickly before they get a chance to ruin a bunch of threads.

If you are taking less than 90 seconds to post, read another post, type your reply and post again, then you are not putting enough thought into your posts.

I hated it initially, but I find mysef increasingly getting used to it.

Of course, I would love to have the 30second limit back.
    Have you Floble'd today?

I really only noticed it once. Maybe it's just a conspiracy by iNet so that it takes longer to satisfy the WHT addiction...

Exclamation 90 second rule a pain in the butt!

I have become aware of the annoying 90 second rule that only allows WHT members to post every 90 seconds. 90 seconds may seem like a vert short time but in actual fact it is quite long.

I often jump from thread to thread posting here and there and this 90 second message is really annoying.

Now, I know that it is inplace to stop spammers / scammers, but in all honesy, I think the only spam on WHT are hosts reviewing themselves or people just comming to WHT, signing up, adversting and breaking rules and then disapearing.

I vote for the 90 second rule to be removed or atleast shortened to 60 seconds.....or maybe once you have a certain amount of posts the rule no longer applies to you.

I just think this rule is more annoying than anything else, and I hope a CL removes it for the sake of my sanity

    Thanks....

  22. #22
    Well,

I don't think they will remove it, but to make it shorter it's the way to go
    ^_^

  23. #23
I believe premium members have it at 30 seconds, I have run into it a fair few times myself, I think it's a good idea to shorten it to 60, but that's upto them, a few people have posted about this now actually, maybe they'll take a hint soon lol

Premium members don't have it, it wasn't part of the deal.

But we are considering boosting it to 120 seconds for all the complainers

    LOL ....

Seriously though, how often does this effect a person's forum life? I mean, I have a relatively talkative personailty, but I've yet to have a problem with this rule. I think the good it does (or rather, the bad it prevents) far outweighs any minor inconvienence.

Put it another way.... if you are seriously annoyed by waiting 90 seconds on the rare occasion when you try to post back-to-back so quickly, then you need to slow the hell down, and you are probably the same guy who is always riding my bumper in traffic, and switching lanes back and forth, all just to find yourself getting to the freeway exit ramp last anyway.

If 90 seconds is fine as you and many other in this thread seem to be saying why then are the Elite sorry premium members set at 30 seconds, are premium members able to read, comprehend, formulate a response then write the reply and posts it in 30 seconds but ordinary members aren't, is that what you people are saying.

I can see that PERHAP it may slow down those intent on causing trouble however the argument being put forward is that 90 seconds is a reasonable time unless your prepared to spend money then 90 seconds is to long, those that pay money get 30 seconds.

Now I have to retract my complaint and ask to be pardoned from my erronous ways.

The Premies are also under the 90 second rule as that modification hasn't been made yet. I agree with someone else on this thread and maybe it should be shorten to 60 seconds or the current time left the same for all members, paid or not.

What could be worse is the having the forum limit the number of posts per day like I've seen on another mboard.

Why don't they just go with "user pays" i.e we pay for each post.
That would solve a multitude of problems .. we would be so busy filling in visa forms we wouldn't have time to most very often and the 90 seconds could be increased to ten minutes.

The other mboard went to a paid system when they instituted a post limit. The premies there get unlimited. They use IPB instead of vBulletin though.

If that idea kicks in, I get amount per day! I'll have to remember the url, it was related to customizing street machines.

I absolutely hate it, it's insanely long - I've been using/posting/owning forums for years and I'm very good at reading a post and replying quickly so I'm finding this rule very frustrating!
