I'd like to make wget available only to root for security reasons but I have a few users that use this for legitimate purposes and need it to make automatic site updates.
Is there a wget alternative they can use or would it be better for me to just copy the wget binary to their directory so they can execute it from there?
You can make a group, and chgrp it to that group, and chmod it 750. That may help.
So would that be better than simply copying the wget executable to the users directory and adjusting the command to /home/username/wget
It's up to you. How many users do you have? How much space would that require? Do all your users share a common bin directory?
