    Internet backbone provider

    Hello guyz,


    Could anyone help provide me with a list of the American Internet Backbone providers, such as level3, XO comm. etc...

    genuity is no longer - they are now level3
    PSI is no longer - they are now cogent
    Global Crossing is not us - they are hong kong (used to be bermuda) I think

    hmmm weird I get emails all the time from global crossing offering us t3 lines all the time here in the US.... hehe just goes to show I dont pay attention to their emails to close.

    I guess the poster needs to clarify - do you want to know everyone that has a backbone in the us? of just us based carriers?

    if you want everyone that has a backbone in the us - then the list is quite longer - like telia, pccwbtn, global crossing, etc.

    there is no internet backbone...
    its basically just a really long cat5 cable running down the middle of the US, it then splits off in a few spots and thats what the internet is made of.
    intercontinental stuff is done via telephone at each end, they manaully retype alll the transmitted data and then send it.

    Sorry for not clarifying, what i am really concerned about is a Company that is qualified to expand, and pull cables to the Middle East region.

    It doesnt matter whether or not its from the US, i only thought that the US has the most internet backbones passing through..

    Btw, XO Communications and Qwest I wouldn't use because their leases suck.

    Qwest is good. The others, I don't know.

    But Verio is a Teir-2 provider, isn't it?

    no way - verio is definately a tier 1 and in fact proabbly one of the strongest to the far east.
