I am just a shared host customer; therefore, I can't reset the server. I really wanted to find out what might cause this problem and that the technician of the hosting company seemed to take a bit too long to fix ( 5 hours), and yet this problem has been happening to others people for the past month.
I had asked the techinician what the problem was, but they did not tell me ( i asked them twice on different emails )
Yep, then it sounds like their mysql config is a bit flaky. I've never had trouble with this, but I tend not to deviate too much from standard configurations. I'd say it's time to ask them to either fix the problem or give you your money back. The downtime of any service they offer you should count as downtime of the server. Check your agreement and see if you're entitled your money back if the server is down for more than a certain amount/month.
Thank you for the link. Right now, I am hosted by a company which has this problem, and both of my sites were down for approximately 5 hours. The problem was related to this, and it has been around the hosting company for a year now.
I will post your link you've provided on our hosting's forums and hope that could help them too
