Comparison (Burst, Managed, SM, FDC)

I'm currently using a FDCServer server, 5mbps unmetered (i dunno why, but I LOVE unmetered plans... it means malicious people can't flood server to make it go over bandwidth), 1ghz AMD and 256mb RAM.

Thinking of getting another server for the more resource-demanding sites. Where should I get it from?

I would go with Burst if they promise to not go down again

well it depends if you need a P4 or a celeron, P4s perform much better. Overall i think SM is the best network for its cost

Why would you run a database-intensive site on a Celeron? Nocster's Celeron 2.4 wouldn't be good for this, take a look at their P4 2.4, 3.0, or Dual Xeon 2.0 (that's with 1GB RAM) - all are under $150/month. Whatever you decide to do, don't use a Celeron - that's just insane and probably won't work the best.

qualitywise, i'd pick servermartix but if uptimes don't matter to you then go for the cheapst: managed/FDC

I currently have a server from FDC, and their uptimes doesn't seem to be bad... although some friends of mine say they oversell bandwidth.

This isnt very fair as he has said managed.com's server is only 1Ghz yet its the second dearest server there. Managed.com do not do servers less then 2.0Ghz and im pretty sure this server is a Pentium 4 2.8Ghz with HT, which actually makes it by far the most powerful in the poll. Could a mod please ammend this?

Indeed

If you're happy with FDC, why not reward the good service from them by staying with them?

Every provider oversells bandwidth, its just FDC are probably the worst

My apologies, it's actually 2.4ghz... unfortunately, I can't edit polls.

I'm not leaving them... just considering getting a second server, and always thought it best not to leave all eggs in one basket.

LOL I know you don`t like FDC SASH but again I challange you to prove your statement.

We actually have more bandwidth per server than for example rackshack-EV1

Also if you search WHT you`ll find plenty more Burst down and Managed down threads in recent months

just my 2 cents :-)

Sash, yes all the providers oversell. It seem that putting down FDC IS YOUR SECOND JOB AFTER ALWAYS PROMOTING HOW GREAT MANAGED.COM IS. Do us all a favor and count the Network Outages and Updates threads over the last 3 months and list the TOP 3. I am not sure but managed.com would be number 1 or 2 and FDC would be disqualified as FDC has not had a thread posted in many months.
