Just curious...Why would you want to use Register.com?

i prefer http://domainmonger.com
a bit more expensive at $17/yr ($1 less per year if you purchase more then one year in advance), but they rule! their service and interface is so easy to use and they are quick! i've purchased four domains for myself and clients through them.

Yes, but customer support there is lousy. They finally got a manage your domain feature up, but it does not include a way to change name servers. You have to email them and they respond to you in about a week saying it is done, then a few days later it is actually done.

How much will it cost you next year? From their FAQ:
Can I register my domain name for more than one year?
Getadomain does not currently offer multiple year domain registrations. However, we plan to have renewal fees be for $8 or less, but we guarantee a maximum of $12 per year.
-they seem to be unsure of this themselves. It is a great price, but they shouldn't be so wishy-washy about renewals. Even $12 isn't bad though...

Ray:
Just clicked on your url. Works fine. Maybe your DNS servers are having a problem with resolving it.
Try accessing register.com through IP: http://209.67.50.67

Re earlier posts on Getadomain
From the Getadomain page:
from the FAQ:
What's the catch?
Anyone who has spent much time looking at domain name prices knows that this is an unbelieveable price. So the first question we get is "what's the catch?" However, there is no catch. There are no membership fees and no hidden fees.
What is this "mail five friends" business?
The only unusual requirement at getadomain.com is that we ask that you help us tell five people about the amazingly low domain name prices. Why do we do this? To sustain the rock-bottom prices offered here we must achieve two goals. First, we need to sell a lot of domains. We have to make up in volume what we give up in margin. Second, we can't spend a lot of money advertising. Sending an announcement about this offer to your friends helps us accomplish both goals, and thus, makes it more likely that you will be able to get cheap domains for a long, long time. Of course clinton@whitehouse.gov may get a lot of announcements about this offer, we realize that. But remember this: the more good emails you give us, the more likely we can keep giving you these good prices
from the registration agreement:
3. Registrant.
You shall be deemed the registrant of the Domain Names although Getadomain will officially be listed as the technical contact (thereof).
8. Acceptable Uses
Although we may determine, in our sole discretion, that your conduct violate(s) our use policy (even if we do not specifically enumerate the violation), the following are specific violations of our use policy....
(iv) upload, post or otherwise transmit any unsolicited or unathorized advertising, promotional materials, "junk mail," "spam".....
__________________________________________________________
OK, so according to (3), for 8 bucks (the first year anyway), we get the privilege of using a domain name, the only restriction being that we are restricted to choosing only one of the two key contacts.
And, according to the "mail five friends" deal, coupled with (8) (iv), we may not send UCE, unless we do so to advertise the registrar itself (I'm assuming that such mailings would not fall under the "unauthorized" category).
Actually, as far as RAs go, at least this one's good for a chuckle.
Then again, maybe my reading of it is off.
