Uploading with Dreamweaver
Hi,
I have a client trying to upload his site via Dreamweaver.
What does this guy need to put in the host directory for uploading?
This is a RedHat box running CPanel.
Cheers.

normal stuff
Don't know CPanel ( all win2k here ) so I don't know exactly how the directories are laid out but DW FTP is just a regular FTP client.
If for instance the FTP root is his user directory and inside this is say 'html' or 'www' as his web root he would just put /html or /www as his host directory.
It's exactly the same as 'initial remote directory' in cuteftp.
The only oddity with dreamweaver is the synchronise feature whereby you can select 'newer local files' and similar - to do this Dreamweaver creates a temporary directory in the FTP root where it stores the modification dates of all the files when comparing so your user needs to have permission to both create and delete directories in their FTP root.

Dreamweaver
The dream weaver help file explains all this but in short click on the Site menu>define site>pick the site>then remote info..
there you put in your ftp information I personally put nothing in the host dir. as it uploads into your account root.
if you need more information, please e-mail me, and I will put together a picture demonstationAndrew (Andy) Leavens

I never put anything. Leaving it blank will just log you in at the top of the account. Makes it easier to skoot around the account if something needs to be uploaded outside the web folder. If something needs to be uploaded to the www folder, then all they need to do is poke that folder.

/public_html
or /www (this is a symlink)
Is standard for a cpanel box I believe. Try it out and find out within 1 minute ;-)

Hi!
I'm assuming that these are the details.
1) Domain - domainname.com
2) Username - user_name
3) Password - user_password
4) home directory - /home/user_name/
Here's what he has to do
Enter the above details and the upload directory is
/home/user_name/public_html
Have a great day

/public_html/
Domenico is correct....
If you are using Dreamweaver 4 and want to upload to an account on a CPANEL server, you must state that the upload directory is
/public_html/
using the Dreamweaver Site Manager
