I am working on a computer here and having some troubles. For whatever reason, it won’t load up Windows (2000/XP). W2K is installed and it will load up the black screen with the “starting windows” bar, but then it won’t switch over and the computer freezes.
When I boot from the W2K / XP CDs, it will load all the drivers, etc. but when it says STARTING WINDOWS, it freezes.
Typically, BIOS' don't just go sour do they? I loaded Windows 2K on the new drive earlier today, and then turned it off to add a new CDRW and it stopped working. I though perhaps the CDRW was defective, so I unplugged it. Same thing, won't load!
before you turn the machine on, hold down thehome key.. then hit the power button while holding the home key still... that will reset the bios, similar to the jumper settings... keep in mind this may not fix your problem too, just a suggestion!
