I was all ready to download Nagios, but it looks like it requires a *NIX server. I am looking for a software app that will monitor a Win2k3 server(s) and is capable of sending alerts.

Nagios (software formally known as NetSaint) has small windows apps that you can install that will report back to the main server things like disk/process, etc. For an OpenSource affordable flexible solution, I would go with Nagios, you can write your own plug-ins with a bit of Perl.
Allows you to chose from a variety of tests. It can send pages and e-mails and you can even specify times that each user can be notified of outages (which is useful if you don't want to bother off-duty staff in the middle of the night).
