Employment section.... cleanup?
How about some sort of cleanup or set of guidelines for posting employment offers/requests.
I just took a look in that section and its terrible!
It seems its full of kids looking for people to work for free. I think that section could be of real value to the industry if it was cleaned up and started to entertain some serious posts...

Yesterday, for the first time in about 3 months, I ventured down into the depths of the ad forums.
Some things never change. The whole related offers forum is laughable. Now I know where all those people who used to hang around in the offers forums are.
Clean it. Deleted it. I guess I don't care much because I don't think I'll be reading there much.

Maybe we can assign certain members *Mod for a day* status to fix all that we are doing wrong?
We can replace Member of the the Month with Mod for the Day nominations?

I thought MOTM was when we vote for members we like. I'd really have to have it in for somebody to vote him a mod for a day... don't get me wrong, but I'd never want to do your job.

I'm observing a bit of observational criticism going on here, or is it critical observation? To be honest, I'm not sure.

Either one would fit, im cool with that
But yeah... with so many mini mods, whats the problem with having whoever is responsible for that area sorting it out a little bit?
Right now there is absolutely no use for the employment section unless your under 16, only communicate over AOL messenger, and looking to work for free for someone thats probably younger than you.Matt Wallis

Sorry, I guess I get a little edgy being called a 'milk monitor'.
What would you like to see us do with that section?

Exactly matt, I'm asking for details, suggestions, anything.... As one of the 'milk monitors' you talk about, what would you rather see me do? 'Fix it!' isn't of value.

I agree something needs to be done about all the want people to for nothing, or next to nothing.
Perhaps, just delete them. And, make a sticky with the rule that the forum is for jobs with actual pay. Or alteast something of that nature.

How about a list of things which should be included when posting to that section? It would help define the job role better and help sort the crap from the genuine stuff.
I myself am not sure of what should be done, which is wht I posted this thread with the "discuss" phrase.Matt Wallis

Theorhetically speaking - how would you guys feel about an elimination of the 'work for free' requests? Much like we did with the no free hosting requests...
(thinking out loud...)
Though a template of requirements may be hard to enforce, given the differing requirements of each job...

I think eliminating the "work for free" requests would be a great thing. If you have a serious business then you will pay someone to work for you. On the other hand, if you're a 14 year old kid.....

Removing the free stuff would be great. It might actually attract some serious posts then, and be worth browsing! Employment doesnt happen for free.

thedavid, I agree. I think this template would work, though:
Payment [Must be higher than 0]:
Payment Method:
Job Description:
Job Requirements:
Misc. Comments:
Makes sure all the basics are listed and easy to scan if it's a legit job or not.
Edit: We also need a clause about work for charity and other non profit organizations.

Why not just cut to the chase and tell people how much they can offer to work for someone, how much others can offer for positions, how much people should charge for web hosting, and of course, how much they others should request for hosting?

I don't see anything wrong with people offering unpaid internships. It's just that people aren't advertising them as such.
I do agree that a format/template should be made for posting ads.

Trusted
I have a suggestion/idea about this.
One thing that has been a bit annoying are the "contests".
There has been a few of them that got to be very long, and a lot of people spent their time making things and in the end no winner.
Actually there was a case even when the starter of the "contest" admitted that they have no site.
Thats just wasting people's time.
So, to my idea/suggestion.
Why not setup a trusted member payment system of sorts?
Lets say somebody wants to start a contest, to ensure that he will pay in the end he pay's a trusted memeber here on WHT.
I'll use Dennis as an example. (hope he doesn't mind)
He pay's Dennis the winners prize, and once dennis confirms, the contest is good to go.
Then when he picks a winner, dennis gives the winner the money.
I thought about this, because when people sell licenses for vB, HiveMail, 'etc here the licenses are first validated by one of the mods.
Just a thought.
