Ok Here's what I have.. Been labroing a lot to get this thing up and I cannot get my pics (GIF and JPG's) to display on my website.. The page shows as well as text... Just like it should... But only shows placeholders for the pics. I am running RH 9 and Apache 2.... I thought it might have been a permissions issue... Still not to sure it's not.. I can view the page ON the machine logged in as anyone I want.. But I cannot view it correctly on my network or from outside... HELP?!?!?!?!
Please check and see that your files are named right. Like CaSe SeNsItIvE iMaGe.JpG will not show up as image.jpg
errr wait...Just read your last part...
Maybe a hotlinking issue. Are you under a control panel ? If so what kind?
Have you looked into your htaccess files? Check for hotlinking permisions.
I re-read your post.. No I am not using a CP that I know of.. just editing the httpd.conf file...
I was looking back through my config file and found one entry I thought might be it.. Called 'DefaultType' Currently it is set to plain/text I'm wondering if it should be application/octet
Tells me that the directoy doesn't exist....
I also checked the path in the HTML doc, I was told to put ../<directorypath> I've tried it both ways; with the preceeding ..'s and w/o. No go. I can see the page properly logged directly onto the server as any user. Outside of the server is a no go.
from the sounds of it, sounds like you need to add the directory if the pictures are in a different location.. try putting it into document root see if you can see just the picture.. you have got something configured wrong

I left my .htaccess to it's default and as for control panel and hotlinking? Huh?
Thanks for replying.. I can use all the help I can get!!
So what's in .htaccess and is hotlinking enabled ? Didn't quite understand what you are saying above.
The permission of the file should be 644 (jpeg, gif).
Hope this will resolve your issue.
Ok.. Forgive my ignorance.. Like I said I am still learning.. Is this in the Apache httpd.conf file? I'm not seeing it.. or am I looking in the wrong place? And the image(s) permissions are already set to 644
Thanks for all your help!.. Any and ALL help is GREATLY appreciated!

Night you are exactly right.. I am not using a CP as I really want to learn the inner workings w/o crutches.. (sorta like you do) But apparently there are a couple of things I am missing.. As for .htaccess.. I'm not sure what I should be looking for..
Not sure what FTP client you are using to upload files to the server/folder. Some FTP client has automatic file upload, if it's set to manual make sure images(jpg, gif, swf) files are uploaded in BINARY and text(html, cgi, php,) files in ASCII otherwise the images cannot be displayed in browser.
Thanks again Bright..
I checked the /etc/mime.types They are already uncommented.
More bad news... I now have some system instabilty and various parts of Gnome are crashing.. Gotta reload the OS.. AGAIN.
