Oh, I don't like Netscape 6. I had a web page using inline style sheets that looked great in Explorer and fairly good in Netscape. The style sheet didn't control all of the font sizes and faces in Netscape 4.75 as well as in IE 5.0, but it was acceptable. For a main navigation bar, use a set of text links. I used style declarations within the <a> tag to strip the default underlining and change the font color to white. This works in IE 5, but would on change the color in NS 4.75. Now in NS 6, it strips the underlining just fine, but it doesn't change the color of the links. I guess it is back to graphic links, unless somebody knows how to do what I cannot.

I just wish Netscape would wake up!! I use to love this browser and would use nothing else. But it is terrible now.

Netscape and IE have always had their differences, mostly because they both implement their own special things.

BTW: I still love netscape, because when I first got online, their was no such thing as IE.

Netscape Preview 6 is still in early beta. I don't know why AOL/Netscape termed the browser 'Preview' rather than 'Beta.' It has caused a lot of confusion. It looks like it has a ways to go.
I think you'll find the Mozilla nightly milestones up-dated more than the Netscape Preview versions.

It's because they're stupid and dishonest (two qualities that often go together). "Preview" has a different connotation than "beta", as if it were almost ready, awaiting only the finishing touches. Beta (in this context), means "we're still working on it, check it out, give us your feedback, and we'll work on it some more."

Netscape had been my primary browser for a number of reasons, and I tried N6 PR1. It was enough to get me using IE more frequently (except for e-mail). It is a better, all around browser, though it too has its share of problems.

N6 will very likely be the browser to shrink Netscape's market share even further. It just might serve them right (that's another story).

Anyone seen the new MSN explorer Microsoft has just released? I have to say it looking pretty slick, and if history teaches us anything, probably the future look of IE. (it does much the same as IE, just a smaller version with some eyecandy as I see it). It's also pretty small too, so this *blah* of Netscape's about the stripped back, from the ground up, size shrunk, spanking new browser of theirs may end up just being posturing. After all it's only a good idea till everyone else is doing it too. I'm pretty sure IE is about to have a downsizing (size wise), and recent versions have me sticking to Uncle Bill's products for quite a while yet.

Which is a damn shame as I was a huge fan of Netscape for years until the 4.0's

Im rather dissappointed in netscape as well as IE, they keep trying to add new functions which just bloat the program down and in my opinion make it harder to use not to mention slower. ANd why would a company even release a beta program to the public, I understand a test group but the PUBLIC!!!

I agree with you, those betas should be released only to a closed&selected group of experienced betatesters.

I updated to Netscape Communicator 4.75 on my linux box yesterday and still no ability to have multiple pop accounts in Netscape Mail. Can you believe that???!!!?? What the hell is wrong with them. How hard is it to make a mail client that allows you to check multiple pop accounts. It makes no sense. So, I continue to use my Kmail which is a simple yet efficient mail client.

I am a true netscape fanatic. But the netscape 6 is killing me. When I tried it, it was slow as hell. Not to mention I had trouble doing things I did easily in netscape 4.75

I had to go back to netscape 4.75 and I am still waiting for them to come back with something great ... but my hopes are slowing falling.

All I know is AOL killed netscape ... it never had a chance

Netscape 6 thankfully has multiple POP e-mail checking (and it's available in PR3) so if you're interested in how it works it's worth checking out.

I've been testing it on my machine (ordinary AMD K6-2 350 and 32MB RAM) and while it's slow, it does render pages very quickly around IE speed. If Netscape can make it more lightweight, then it has just the slightest chance of regaining some of its market share.

If it's still the same lumbering dinosaur it is on my machine when the final release comes out, don't expect them to get any market share back at all. We've certainly been waiting long enough.

It is my understanding that Netscape 6 PR3 had "hover" disabled till they fix a bug of some sort. Supposed to be re-enabled in the next version.

There is more support more CSS1 but stay sane and stay away from using any CSS2.

I've been using Mozilla (latest build) on my Linux box for quite a while and lately they are definately making some serious improvments. If you ignore the JavaScript issues it has its definately way better what is current NS is offering.

As for Netscape 6 it is merely a snapshot of Mozilla's build several month old. Personally I believe netscape is quite dead, I can only hope Mozilla can replace NS before it totaly evaporates in favor of IE.

But, then again Mozilla team has those *important* chat clients to design.
