Can you tell me how to convert pictures to JPG if they are already saved as something else such as BMP or ART?

For some reason my pictures only allow me to save them as BMP and ART. How can I change that to JPG?

What program are you using to view them?

You could use Paint in Windows.

Open the image, then go to file and "Save As" and select the format you wish to save it as.

.art images are something AOL uses. If you turn off the picture compression in your AOL browser you should be able to save images in their original format (assuming you are saving them from the web) You might then also be able to open them in the browser and save them as jpeg from there. Be sure to flush your temp internet files also, as that seems to eventually fill up and prevent the browser from saving in anything but BMP format.

Most graphic programs convert images to different formats. Like Pat H stated above, open the image, then go to file and "Save As" and select the format you wish to save it as. These simple instructions works with any graphic program.

Depending on the program you may have to export the file in a different format, rather than save as a different format.

One solution that surely works is to save the file as BMP. Then get http://www.irfanview.com (it's free), install it, open the BMP file with Irfanview then File->Save as... and choose jpg. That simple!
