I have started to see more and more web hosting providers that run all their services via the front page of their forum. Surely this will affect the opinions of people who visit the site.
Has anyone had any first hand experience on whether this actually affects possible clients, it just seems like if the host didn't take the effort to set up a website to link their services and support why should their hosting be any good.
Please don't take this the wrong way as I am not saying that what I have said is the case but I was interested in what everyone felt about these sites.
I dont know wether it affects clients, for us it hasnt affected sign ups or our perceived reliability.
The fact that we have a forum on the front page doesnt mean we were too lazy to set up a home page... we just dont want to be like *EVERY* other hosting company out there.
Yes.... its a radical change from what users who visit your site are expecting to see but (and i Did do extensive research on it) visitors seem curious and browse quite a lot of the forum, they get a feel for your company a little quicker than seeing a generic statement merely saying "We are the best"
Its quite hard to explain but it kind of gives you a central place to update all customers on system announcements, server problems, answer pre-sales questions and support questions for others to see and be able to search upon later on down the line should they forget.
Its not intended to be a user-help-user system but indeed turns out to be an exchange platform where users share problems, ideas and information.
I do know some types of customers... if they are having a problem with a type of software it gets deleted and they dont wish to continue using it because they could get it to work... they dont want to come and ask how to make it work... a simple search and they could find that others had the same exact problem, how it was solved and how they got on with it.
