Your domain is registered at namecheap and you have locking ON
Someone initiates a transfer of your domain from register.com, Register.com's system automatically contacts namecheap to transfer your domain... With locking ON the request is denied.
If locking is OFF, namecheap contacts you at your email address to confirm the transfer... if this hacker/malicious person has gained access to your email, they confirm it, the transfer goes through and you just lost your domain.
Originally posted by Socrat It's very easy to turn of locking (to change the nameservers for example). If the person maliciously transfering the domain can get it transferred, why can't they unlock it also?
thats also possible, but decreases the possibility.
