    Ebay shopping :) ?

I think i know what the answer will be, but how do you feel about server shopping on ebay? cut server costs ...

I'm not saying for a reseller of dedicated servers, but for a resseller of services. I was just curious - please don't use this post to discredit me as a provider anytime as i most likely won't go this route.

We do it. In fact a lot of people do it.

Why not? There is nothing wrong with the equipment (most of the time), and I have never had a bad experience.

We buy all of our servers on ebay. We buy Dell 2450 dual 733s or 866s and add memory to bring them up to 2 GB.

    Best deal going.

I'm not exactly the best hardware person however - how hard is it to load an OS?

Boot off of the install CD and follow the instructions (for both Linux and Windows).

Generally you can format the hard disk from within the OS installer.

    Windows is press-a-few-keys-and-you're-done.

With Linux, no matter how gushy and pretty the GUI is, you'll have to understand the different Linux filesystems and the basics of a Linux machine. Either way it's not hard at all, you'll be fine.

As for bulk lots on eBay, there are many all the time. You can find a good deal if you have the cash up front.
