Hosts with SSH and 24/7 support

    Hi, group,

I was looking for a good budget host (<7~8$ per month),
that would provide SSH access and 24/7 support. So far the only one I am able to find is 1and1.com (they are 10$ per month).
I would also need the common things like MysQL, PHP, perl etc,
and >500 MB Web space, >5G month bandwidth.

Anyone can suggest some good hosts that meet those
    requirements ?

    Thanks.

Just curious, what do you need SSH for?

I highly doubt that you will find a true host with true 24/7 support for your price range... Either be a little more flexible with your price range or your support needs.

You could try using the new quote feature here. WHD also offers one, and its free to the user:

I have not play with SSH at all. It just so happens that
it seems SSH will provide you a shell that you can do
things on the server, sort of like a telnet window. The
normal FTP access is just too limiting. With shell access,
I can more easily set up file structures, start/kill a
    process, install a software etc.

You would need a VPS or dedicated server to be able to to do most of those. Even the hosts who provide SSH access limit the functionlity to basic functions like setting up file structures etc.

Most of the times you can just ask host to do something for you, if it's once in a while.

    Just my 1.9 cents

Any host with shell access uses JailShell. JailShell limits you to /bin/bash (or something, I'm still reading up myself) so that you can only work in your own directory. No process killing, no structures, no custom software. It's about the same as FTP except you can do a few things such as rSync with your PC.

Yes that is definetly true dedicated for you if you want to play with SSH. For $8 a month you wont find this. No reason for someone on namebase hosting to have ssh unless it is monitored and you have great reason for using it. We take a faxed Id and a number of security measures we take.

SSH is not very useful after all because you wont have root access to install, change, etc.

For $8/mo, ask Lunarpages.com if they will do Shell for you. Offer some PhotoID for verification.
