Question Background Colors/Images. CSS or NOT??

I'm working on a page that somebody else originally built. The background colors and background images in the different tables/cells were done as part of the CSS, td class="whatever".

After reading a lot about browser compatibility problems with some aspects of CSS, I'm wondering if I should switch them to regular html code, bgcolor="whatever".

    Thoughts? Opinions? Experiences?

Yes you should use CSS for background colours and images as they are deprecated attributes in HTML.
