So I have decided to go with ServerMatrix
My only problem is what OS to use. I am currently on Red Hat 7.3 and I do want a Linux solution. So should I go with Red Hat Enterprise or Red Hat 9? Is one more stable than the other or have more features than the other?

Why don't you do some research instead of just asking people here. I'm sure there are tons of linux developer forums that are talking about this issue.
Just seems to me that no one wants to read anymore. They just want people to tell them what they should do.
Reminds me when my mother would say "if all the other kids were jumping off a bridge would you do it to?"

All I did was ask a question. You didn't have to respond if you didn't want to answer it. No one is forcing you.
I am currently reading into both at the moment but I am not an expert at either so there could small things that I miss that could affect server performance and whatnot.
It is like purchasing a motherboard on a computer. Sure you know all the specifics and whats on paper, but its the experience that you can never gain unless you actuall use it. And of course, I don't have the time or the money to experiment with a machine using both OS's so I am asking for help by the persons opinions.
Seems pretty simple to me.

I would recommend you going with RHE3.0 so it will save you the hassle of switching from RH9.0 to RHE3.0 which will mean downtime; however this is what I think

I'll stay with RH 9 to prevent the hassle of having to move back to it if RH Ent don't work for you.
Read too much horror stories with RH Enterprise and it seems not so prime for production yet.
My RH 9 server will remain till the day I give the machine up years later.

have you considered fedora, debian or (non linux) freebsd?
we have had very good lick with all of these. what are you going to be running on it and I can maybe give you a little more feedback.

FreeBSD 4.9 or FreeBSD 5.2 both are rock solid and free with no EOL to worry about or other license issues. Cpanel also works on both. Stay away from FreeBSD 5.1

every system has it's occasional problem
depends on whether you know how to manage it, sometimes with newer systems where admins have less experience it takes longer to determine a problem.

lol - I didnt catch that one. well - I can say that the whole red hat linux situation left a "bad taste" in my mouth - so I would say freebsd definately tastes sweet - especially since it performs the best in all our benchmarks on systems vs the other os.

Hello everyone, thanks for your replies. The server is used for web hosting. They are just personal projects and whatnot, nothing major such as businesses. I just really don't want to get in the habbit of relying on support for any company if its not necessary so I am trying to find the best solution possible.
I have never used FreeBSD or Debian, I've only had experience with Red Hat so I am not sure how different it is from the others.

I have heard about alot of bugs in RHE so if not wanting to deal with support might want to just do RH9 as you arent using this for business hosting.
