A Newbie's Question

Hey guys, I apologize in advance if you see me posting with questions that you yourself would consider "stupid" or whatever. But I guess we're all new at something of interest...I'm just trying to learn everthing I can. With that said, my question this morning is:
I keep hearing/seeing people refer to server resellers and hosting resellers; what are they exactly, and are they really the exact same thing?? I guess to me it sounds like it could be when a person buys his/her own personal web server for their own biz purposes and then have the extra room to rent out space on the server? So they choose to rent the space for someone else to in turn, rent server space; and/or simply use the extra space for hosting other people's sites.

Hopefully this finds some very bored person that has the extra time to help me out...TYIA

Hi Chris,

Welcome to WHT

Server Reseller: Resell's dedicated servers from a datacenter. (ie: there are a lot of Nocster resellers on this forum and other datacenter resellers)

Hosting Reseller: Resell's shared hosting on that specific web host's dedicated server. Basically splitting up a dedicated server and selling space.

Hope this helps

basically, a reseller hosting company buys reseller account from a larger hosting company, and then resells the space.

Chris,

Think of it as a big pyrimid... I'll even make it a pyrimid

A datacenter sells a server
Some old guy buys a server
This old guy sells some of his space to this young guy
This young guy buys the space from that old guy, the old guy just re-sold his space to this young guy. This young guy is now looking for his own server... He can only afford one in about 30 years, then the pyrimid starts over!

Have a nice day

That's exactly what I was thinking

"Chris,

Think of it as a big pyrimid"

Thanks guys, that's what I was going to mention this morning in my post; I figured it to be of the pyramid scheme concept.

Have a good one,

Chris
