Not to question you, but how would they check if the account was legit that way? Was there an auto-respond or an image included with it?

Robert, I think there is an easy way to check that by inserting invisible script into messages that send the spammer a receipt when the email is viewed.

How would such code be entered into an email to generate a return reciept???? That would be usefull on some emails i send to friends who i wanna know they got it........
Used to be a company called "itraceyou" but they went under i guess.........

There are read notify programs which send back a confirmation even if you just open the email message. The recepient will never know the confirmation is sent back but the sender will know the message has been opened.

But will this work if you are just downloading headers in a program like Mailwasher? I don't believe so.

I don't think so ! The reason of spamming is to proove that the spammer is a real .......... ( I don't want to say that sorry).
