Help me newbie here

Hi to all i am very new in this forum but i have been reading for about a month now and i have some questions to ask..

what is ssl?

my current provide is providing share SSL

what is the different between shared ssl and private ssl.

And my provide provide only 50 mb of shared ssl ..
but i don't know what is it..

At first i thought it was just a cert that say that your transaction is secure but after my provider say 50 mb i am way confused.

Another question what do most reseller do when starting his/her business? if one who take up a reseller program perhaps have little captial lets say 5k. How do you get your customers? As adversting is very expensive.

Do a lot more reading on this forum and the links I mention below. The answers are there, you just have to spend time looking around.

http://www.linuxbeginner.org Look especially at the Top 10 Links.

http://thewhir.com/ The Web Host Industry Review. Lots of good info here.

Do a search here on WHT for some of the more highly recommended hosts. Pick out 2 or 3 potential hosts you may want to get an account with. Look at their sites and read the info they have. Send them questions. See how fast they answer and well they explain things to you. But before you send them questions, really look at their site and make sure they haven't already answered your questions.

Once you decide on a host, open up an account. Then experiment with your own site. You can get a decent reseller account for $5 - $10 month. Just try it out. If you get a reseller account, you don't need to know much about Linux and running a server as your host will take care of most of that. But if you opt for a DS (dedicated server), you will need to learn a lot more.

Good Luck!
