Hello all,

While attempting to do a traceroute from a server at ThePlanet to my colo racks at IDT the last hop is show as:

16 nycmny1wce2-winstar-pos.wcg.net (65.77.98.74) 37.985 ms !X * 37.671 ms !X


it is the same when i try it from traceroute.com

Does anyone know what the !X is? I know the * is a timeout.


- I came across this because all of our servers started to respond reallys low and I traced it to host names not resolving, and any server that tries to do a hostname conversion (tried from nslookup) on both windows and linux boxes can't connect to any of the root servers to pull data - however I can lookup host names that we host on the DNS server by using nslookup from my home... odd ?

Hm - after waiting on hold they said that they had routing issues with Williams in NY (which explains the !X) and they were blocking dns (stupid) because of a DDOS - both issues appear to be resolved now.
