Just because your boss wants to do this, does not mean it's a good idea. If you guys do not have the staff to manage the server then it will be like throwing money into a black hole since it will be a lot more hassle than its worth.

Having said that if they are willing to spend a some extra money, you could look into a fully managed solution where you or your staff do not have to actually manage the machine but the entire box will be yours.

Well, honestly it sounds like you're not sure of what to do in this case. Now does your company already have the server? If so, does someone manage it at this point?

Otherwise it sounds to me like you're going to need either a managed provider or a server admin.

If your company has it's own server, is there someone with the knowledge to maintain it? If so, they should know how to transfer your company's website over to that server. Otherwise, you might want to go with a managed dedicated server provider and hire someone to manage your server.

If the company you work for already has a server, are they able to maintain it? If so, they should already know how to transfer the website over to the company's server. Otherwise, you should try looking into a managed dedicated server provider, or hire someone to maintain the server. You wouldn't want it to get compromised.

Since you're asking how to host your own website, you're better off paying $4.99/mo for a hosting account somewhere and save yourself the trouble of having to manage a server.

No offense here, but you're managing the server and you don't know how to publish your website with it? At this point, my advice would be to find you a good solid provider (whether it be a managed dedicated server or a good admin) and let them take care of things for you. It sounds to me that you're just not quite sure of what to do and that could leave potential security issues. If you absolutely have to have your own server, find a good admin.
