ModerbBill - is it worth it?

I currently use ClientExec, and am completely disappointed with the slow development and lack of features that seem to have been requested, and in some cases written by users but not included, for months.

So I want to switch, and get it right this time. Modernbill put me off last time because it looks so complicated, but it does seem to have the biggest and most complete feature set. So is it worth investing the time to learn it?

I've heard not so great things about support, and I have to admit I'm disappointed at the response times for pre-sales enquiries. I'm also very wary about only having access to their support forums for the duration of the license - why would they restrict this? Surely it's better to provide a platform where clients can support each other, and nurture their online community?

Drams Plus and WHM AutoPilot look ok too. I've already wasted money on one system, so I want to get it right this time! I've tested the demos, but I'd like feedback from users. Please help!

Well, personally I've tried all three that you mention, whmautopilot/modernbill/clientexec. I still use clientexec but at times am frustrated like you obviously are now. I have faith that CE will pull it together and start moving forward with development otherwise I would likely switch over to modernbill. The primary reason I haven't done this yet is because I feel MB (while obviously a very good product) is much more difficult to use than CE. WHMAutopilot looks nice as well but again it seems to much for the purpose I use it for. I am still a small company so using CE has worked great for me, eventually if development isn't moved along a little faster I may choose to go with a bulkier more developed product for my customers sake.

Good Luck finding more info,

Ryan

MB is so far the best IMO, but it will take you lots of time to learn how to config, how to use etc. i use it, and i LOVE it!

We're in the process of switching over to modernbill from clientexec, and all I have to say is WOW.

It wasnt as hard as some say it was to config, and it has so much more options. We're gonna be sticking to modernbill.

I didnt see those - I'll go check. What I did notice though is that the priority setting default to low, and I probably didnt change this. So I guess it's my own dumb fault

I don't believe so...at least not officially. A member here (UltimeWWW) has written a script for it though:

That aside, we just converted from ClientExec to ModernBill and are very happy we did. CE is good, but we got tired of waiting for the enhancements to be made as they kept getting delayed over and over. That being said, if you don't need those enhancements, CE is still a great script.

ModernBill support has been fine for me. I have only had one ticket...everything else I was able to find or get answered on the forum. It took awhile for me to be content with all the settings. A lot of testing took place to ensure everything was functioning the way I wanted and even after we started moving clients I found a few more things to tweak.

Generally, yes. You have to manually encrypt the cc # after an order is placed or card updated. I think someone was working on a automatic process for this but that was awhile back.

Wel they still havent bothered responding, and I've updated the ticket twice.

Are there any unofficial support forums that users have set up? Seems logical if MB will kick us out after 6 months...

I'm still testing WHM AP against MB (I'm leaning towards WHM as its client interface is more manageable, but I'm putting a lot of faith in their support system update in Feb/Mar), but I was getting 12-14 hour responses on the pre-sales line. I got pretty complete answers, too.

Taken from ModernBill sales page:

Quote:
Our support staff is available through live support sessions, or 24 hour support ticketing system
They are right - i've been waiting well over 24 hours for a response now

WHMautopilot -- period.

I installed and used ModernBill, it's garbage. It's buggy, the documentation is a joke, and it's overly and needlessly complicated.

WHMautopilot has all the features I need, a better order page/system, and an active developer who responds quickly to problems.

The only problems I have with WHMAP:

1) Support desk is a little lacking; to be fixed in 3.0

2) Addons for orders are on/off -- you can't, say, sell x# of mysql dbs as addons (not a big deal)

One nice thing is a large portion of the code isn't even encrypted -- a very nice thing IMHO.

Also, it's really easy to theme... such a great plus.
