How managed is managed?

When a company says they are managed... what do they actually manage?

Like server patches? Server security? Making sure you don't screw up your server? etc.

none will grantee this for you,

you can go and delete the full home directory then come and say hey my server is supposed to be managed.

and you need to look into each server provider page to know what does the word managed mean to them

It depends on the company. You're best off asking them.

Managed can be very unclear - you need exact details of server management.

It can be anything from just upgrading your machines kernel to full blown dedicated admin who sets up all your client sites, upgrades the server software, firewall, security and much more.

Most providers basic 'managed' solutions offer OS Management, basic server monitoring (ping & port), along with installation of added Apps and purchased software...

But you really should review all contract details from a provider over what they say they will and won't do.

the definition about 'managed' is different between one company and another company. You should ask first to them what kind of services do they offer to you
