Hi im getting this error in my WHM:

mysql has failed, please contact the sysadmin (result was "/usr/bin/mysqlshow: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)"). Any one had any problems like this?

I was able to fix it. I just rebooted the server and that did the trick.

A reboot seems extreme, /etc/rc.d/init.d/myqql restart should restart mysql on a redhat box...

Most of the time this command will not work
/etc/rc.d/init.d/mysql

So you will have to use /usr/bin/safe_mysqld

The above command will work for sure

Of course my mysqld SYSV init scripts call safe_mysqld, which is also just a script.

You /should/ run /etc/init.d/mysql(d) restart

init.d is where your init scripts do, blessen you'd be calling the binary, MaB you'd be calling a symlink (not as heinous a crime)

also it might not be 'restart', I can't remember

You are right about the 'restart', you'd have to run
/etc/rc.d/init.d/mysql(d) stop
/etc/rc.d/init.d/mysql(d) star
