Awstats first execution time?

Hi all,
I'm just playing around /w awstats right now and I got it started to do its first run about 15 minutes ago and its been sitting like this ever since:
Quote:
Update for config "./awstats.planetfwo.com.conf"
With data in log file "/home/alfarin/logs/web.planetfwo.com.log"...
Phase 1 : First bypass old records, searching new record...
Searching new records from beginning of log file...
Phase 2 : Now process new records (Flush history on disk after 20000 hosts)...
did my SSH/Perl/Awstats froze? Or is it normal for it to take forever to execute the first time around? Or does it always take forever to execute it?

It took me 15 seconds to produce stats for a 3.4MB log file Is the stuff you quoted generated by AWstats? I've never seen it.

Ok... so its definetly wrong...
Yah, ok, I did all that, then I went:
> perl awstats.pl -config=planetfwo.com -update
and it showed that and then just halt there (using Awstats 6.0)

I guess there must've been some kind of error that its not reporting or whatnot...

Yar that's right... and then you have to do something like

./awstats.pl -config=site.com -output=errors404 -staticlinks > 404.html

to build the pages

I dunno why it took you so long for awstats to read the logs... maybe your log file is too big?

Took me over 4 hours on a 1.5G log file the first time on a Dual xeon machine. However, the updates are very quick with over 200MB each hour on the log file. (15-60 seconds, depending on size and DNS lookups)

Hope to help, of course

Are your DNS servers alive? It's a possibility it's just stuck waiting for timeout on gethostbyname() which is generally not too quick, especially when you are looking up hundreds, or thousands of hosts.
