Host Affection

I do apologise to those on this forum whom maybe angered that my first and probably only post is to rant and rave about my old host - Host Affection - but I have been advised to post what I have to say on this forum.

I have a personal website and a forum which was sponsored by Host Affection. Timothy who was the only one I spoke to from the company, who assured me that my site and forum would be in safe hands... saying he had 99.9% up time and that his servers were going to be updated etc...

I run a forum which has a target audience of the teen community, who also visit my site. Timothy was aware of this when he took our sites on board (I say our and we as I co-run the forum with 2 friends).

We do have a small but very active community, which we have put so much into and were so happy to hear that he was going to host our forum for only 4 banners on our rotation... this was the only agreement made.

Soon after the forum was running, the server went down... the many sites and scripts which we had configuired etc... had been deleted and we had to sort it all out which took us over 2 days to sort out.

The forum and sites were up and running, he apologised and said it wouldn't happen again.

A week later, if not a little under a week, the server went down... no e-mail, ftp or site access for a 2 week period. He promised to give us some form of compensation in increasing our bw and space and also giving us $35 to help with our funds - so we could run contests etc... for our community.

Needless to say, no money was received.

As part of the rules of our forum, to keep it well maintained and moderated etc... we have a codes to register and if you do not post a certain amount within your first 2 weeks, you are deleted.

We also like to keep some sort of equality on our forum, so staff and members are treated the same. He was made aware of this and I made sure he knew this - I told him that just because he is our host, he gets no special treatment. The rules apply to everyone.

All he did was promote, argue, be flirtious with members (remember, in the teen community) and act superior to members. Alas, he was deleted as he did not post enough.

He IM'd one of our members who is only 15 and asked her to come and visit him... which I talk about in the IM. This seriously freaked her our - and in this day and age of phedophiles forever being exposed and the welfare of kids and teenages, you can not be too careful.

He then decided to tell us that Greymatter was banned on the server... after over a month of hosting us... with 6 greymatter blogs on the domain and within our forum.

He told me to remove my MIDI files... which I later just moved to a friends domain to be hosted.

He then said that he wanted to be on the forum staff... saying he had a right to know what was being said on the forum.

He went on to say he didn't want any other hosting companies advertising on the forum... which we never agreed to.

He reduced me to tears at one point with his constant annoying me and wanting to talk to me so much. I kept on telling him that he is only to e-mail me anything on his company - I blocked him - he used other screen names to get in contact with me. He started stupid conversations - making small talk - when I specificially stated that all correspondants were to be made via e-mail.

Our forum and my ongoing site projects were then offered a new sponsorship with a company offering us a dedicated server, for 40% of our banner impressions... which we see as a more reasonable offer. We agreed and I decided that after we moved all our files to the new server and made sure he could not do a thing to our files... I would IM him and tell him what I thought about him and his company.

May I also add... within the past hour he has sent me money via paypal... to the sum of $2.

Again, I apologise for this being my first post on here and I thank anyone for reading what I have to say about such an ******* and his company.

"be flirtious with members (remember, in the teen community)"
^ the first time he was in the chat (1st time!) he was calling us all "chicks", whihc I know sounds a bit weak, but it offended us and we asked him to stop. He went on to say that he "was blonde with blue eyes, yada yada" Since it was only girels int he chat, we told him to leave till one of our other forum Administrators came online. When he wouldnt we were forced to create a new chat and move into that one.

^yea, thats me. :|

"He reduced me to tears at one point with his constant annoying me and wanting to talk to me so much."
^Being a S. Mod. at the forum, I would occasionally IM him when the forum was down (whihc was OFTEN) and no other Admins were online. It would turn out that he would keep me in the conversation for HOURS. I once clocked it to 4 straight hours. I had to ask people to help me get rid of him, but me being to polite to block him :|, I couldnt.

I find this post to be highly disrespectful to the company I work for. Being an employee of Host Affection, I have dealt with this client's issues. The client's site is question Fu** Boards is a small but very active web community. This forum has grown in such time that it has reeked havoc on our servers. The client in question has grown from one hosting plan to the next, until finally reaching it's own dedicated server. Please note, our company hosted this client in the return of banner advertisement.

We have had some minor problems with the server this client is own. Problems that could of only resulted in the site's constant volume of activity. We have tried to explain this to the client, but we were met with harsh and lewd comments.

As to respond to Greymatter, and MIDI files. We agreed to allow the client to run greymatter only if certain patches were installed and if the program would cause no further problems. Anyone with a decent amount of knowledge would know that Greymatter is a very defective, flawed program. It also uses far too much of a server's resources. After several problems and constant fixes and repairs on our part, the techs decided to ban greymatter on all servers. Not just this particular client. Now with MIDI files, they are considered illegal unless the user has the strict author's permission to use them on such sites. We did ask the client to remove them til such permission was granted.

We host several clients and sites, and with the accusation that our servers were down for two weeks is absurd. If this were true, why would anyone sign up with our company. Host Affection has been granting private hosting to several clients before our opening. If Host Affection was in such bad shape, why were people still signing up and all of our clients are still with our company.

To also challenge the so called acts of online child abuse. Our sales rep spoke with the client who was underage, but at the present time did not know of her age. She spoke of traveling and our company and the sales rep offered for her to come by our office in New Jersey when all of our staff would be in July and we would present a tour and even perhaps a lunch or dinner invitation. At that time, the staff member did not know of the client's age, or such an offer would of never be made.

Also, we like to see how well our clients are enjoying their services. Being that the client in question worked with many Sales Reps, we felt that it was best if he and he alone checked in and monitored the sites for anything going against our terms of service. If any Sales Rep acted and upset or offended the client, we are truly sorry for this. I suppose, we are only supposed to host the actual site, not be nice and show a streak of humanity.

I dont know why you would post this. The hosting company was giving them free space, their website from what I have read grew, they upgraded the account, and then it came down to their site was just too big to host for free so they let them go.

You can get upset with someone when they give you free space, and try their best to help you. Some people just want too much for free, and get all pissy when you say no.

the fact in this story is not the free hosting... but how ppl running company have dealt with teen' and talk with them!!! this is pointless!!! and no sense to ask to a teen an appointment etc!! i do not trust the previous post from the guy who stated that his employee did not know she was a teen!!!! can't believe him! and i think it's enough to show how the company is...

SHAME SHAME SHAME!!!!

no more comments from me.
