file hosting - 1gb / day anyone?

I am looking for a place to host some files for my website. I don't need any special server features but I want a fixed per day bandwidth so I can spread the load over a month without having the pay extra charges at the end. I am looking for something like 1 to 2gb / day. Valuehost.co.uk seemed like it offered what I needed but after contacting them they said they do let more bandwidth to be used and charge at the end of the month.

anyone knows of a host that offers what I need at a reasonable cost or someone can make an offer?

thanks

Its probably more in your interest to ask for a monthly amount as your traffic will fluctuate day to day and then ask prospective hosts to not let you go over.

Its easily done and if you find a suitable host, most will keep an eye on your transfer rates and agree a service schedule with you. i.e. if your predicted to go 1Gb over, leave your account up and running but if its heading for the 20Gb mark over your limit, stop you sending anymore.

I dont think hosting companies can make you offers here anymore. They can only refer you to other companies...so don't expect any offers. You might want to try one of those high bandwidth hosting companies like www.midphase.com | www.******.com | www.ipowerweb.com

Good Luck

letsgo thats exactly what I want. Since all I want this hosting is for files I want to pay a flat rate for it and it doesn't matter to me if users at a point are unable to download. If a host could do that then I guess I'd go for them. The only reason I said day by day was that if I let them limit the daily use it will never come to a point during the month that it will be impossible to download any file till the next month. I am not sure if I am making any sense.

it is not easy for a host to limit your bandwidth daily...I believe pair.com has that feature but ... they are too expensive for you.

thanks BVS I e-mailed the providers you mentioned to see what they do when the limit is reached.

what is the situation in general? I guess most let u go above the limit and charge on a per gb basis right?

I don't know kyriakos, but I would think you would be billed per GB basis but they would know better since it is their company

Usually one of two things --
a) Let you go over and bill you for the overage.
b) Automatically suspend your account until the next month.

No, we don't limit on a daily basis, but we do express some of our allowances on a per-day basis, which may be a source of confusion.

Nothing to it, mod_throttle is your friend.

We have a customer who has a 2G per day file download site we just setup a mod_throttle rule of 2G per 24 hours and that's that. Or was it 1 gig per 12 hours anyway something like that.

File hosting....

I interpreted your post to indicate your site would be posted elsewhere, just the files in this account. Is that correct? If so, why aren't you hosting both together? Many hosts will not allow you to host files without the site. Others will.

I've never understood why a host would care, you sell X space Y transfer who cares if they use it for html/jpg's or .zips as long as they pay you, and it's legal content.

That happens probably when mad overselling is enabled for the host.

I am not aware of a place which offers fixed bandwidth per day but rather those which offer monthly allocation and you decide how you want to use it within the given month.

You might actually do better that way since the usage might fluctuate day by day.

One thought would be to get a Virtual Private Server or dedicated server which would probably be cheaper for you when it comes to bandwidth.
