Moving from reseller to server
Whats the best way to move sites from reseller space I had bought some time back to my own servers (which I have now).
I want minimum transit time for my customers while preserving all their sites, email and other configurations intact.
We have nameservers set up for the reseller space. Should I change these nameservers to point to the new servers and shift data or change individual sites nameservers to that of the new servers.
Both servers are running cpanel 8.
Thanks in advance.

Use the transfer accounts to another server feature in WHM on your new server. This will preserve everything.

What about DNS changes for each site? Should I do that individually or just shift my main nameservers right away ?
I dont have root access to the server where I'm a reseller. Don't I need that ?
Thanks.

You don't need root access to the server you have your reseller account on. Just the IP, account username and password.
As for the nameservers, set up your nameservers first in WHM and your domain registrar and get that working properly. After that, transfer the accounts over to your server and have your clients change the DNS on their domain to point to the new ones.
Now, if you already have the nameservers set up, change the IPs on them to point to the IPs that point to your server.

ya, all you would have to do is transfer all your data from the reseller to the server, then change the ips for your nameservers. If done correctly, there shouldnt be any downtime.

But there might some data losses. In fact, you MUST have ability to edit zone file which allow you to change the IP immediately.

I believe that UUN is talking about editing the zone file on your server.

Hey,
I have just transferred over 10 domain names to new server. With web sites, forums, databases and everything. It went ok.
Some sites were down for quite some time (5+hrs) due to the new DNS settings propagation...
Email your clients, be proactive.

Yes, inform your clients as to what is going on. Explain to them that this move is for the best.

or you may also register your domain again with a different tld like .net.. then open up your new server set to that new domain. Copy your data from your reseller to your server. Tell all your clients to change their dns to your new nameservers. No downtime should be involved.

I have never received this error, but I am doing some research to try and dig up something about it. I'll let you know what turns up.

I found this, but not sure it will fix it fully.
"Try editing and saving the account on the server you are copying from, change the name of the account user, and that should remake all the users .files."
