Perhapse the lenght of signature should be reduced a bit... Even I am using a long one but some people have it triple lenght... I it fine to know who is posting and what theya re doing... but company motos, phone, fax, address, three url, alternate icq, aim number, 4 e-mails address may be too much.
If course I like to exegerate a bit but sometime the message is
----------------- beginning of message
I agree
--------
good hosting company moto
url1
url2
url3
uin: 12335345345
aim: somehandle
e-mail
title
address
----------------- end of message
see the point? I would believe that 3-4 lines could be enough (??)

Request shall be discussed with Matt and other mods as requested I'd personally wouldn't mind 4-6 lines maximum, but it'll depend on feedback.
Thanks for the suggestion.

I agree with a 3-4 line limit.
[Plus, advertising not allowed in the post seems to 'creatively' appear in the sig.]

LOL...
I was referring to those who have put special offers and prices in their sigs.
</personalopinion>My personal opinion is, and remember, this is only my personla opinion, the sig line shouldn't even have links to sites, etc.. The reason being that this is supposed to be a help board, not a sales board. </endpersonalopinion>

Michael, point taken. However, most boards do allow hosts' sites in sigs, so that people actually know they're a host, and not just some person. And besides, most of us have other sites anyway (including me, but I still haven't gotten around to the damn thing yet). I don't think it's really a point of contention, and I actually think it's good to see hosts representing their companies, trying to help others out.
Of course, in the end, the hosts have to rely on others to recommend them

Well, Dynasty could save space a bit if he put the URLs on one line and the AOL/ICQ on one line and one mention of the company name instead of two, but overall, I don't much care, and I don't make the rules. I just unleash the CDS when someone breaks 'em.

I think as long as you dont advertise your whole hosting plans with price on it it's ok..
I dont think we should put a limit on the # of lines.. but should keep it resaonable.. hehe
or another suggestion is that the message should not be shorter then the signature.. eerr.. but that would be a problem for me hehehe

I would agree with Felix's suggestion. I would suggest adopting the Usenet standard 4-line .sig. I don't mind hosting companies putting their URLs in the .sig, as I prefer to know in what context someone is making a post to a forum.

I agree. Some hosts got to excess. They don't need to list every means to contact them, their birth date, astrological sign, etc. Anyone interested can follow a URL to their site and find the relevant contact information. Four lines is ample room.

I vote for 4 lines also. This is plenty for contact info without being an ad.

Keep the signature down and if someone really wants to contact a person, they can click the profile icon.

Maybe instead of standardizing the number of lines (the next step would have to be to limit the line length) there could be approved items that could be included. For example: name, url, e-mail, ICQ, whatever is decided to be appropriate.
