he.net problem?

Forgive my ignorance that I am about to show - because this side of network administration is definately not my strong suit - (that's why I pay for managed service)

I've been trying to get to another of my fave hosting related forums and have been unable to all morning although I can get everywhere else I have tried. So I ran a tracert to see what comes up and here it is:

So from this would I make a correct assumption that there is definately an issue at he.net? I have no sites/servers on this backbone (thank goodness I guess) - but I do wish I could drop in on Chicken to browse

I am also having problems getting to HHO
It actually looks more like a specific server problem (from quick look into it)..as he.net works and traces / pings to other servers work fine.

It appears to be down from here as well, and a traceroute ends up at HE. Looks like fastservers.net is down as well -- that could be his provider.

Surprised a site like that is single-homed... but I suppose that's another topic of discussion.

ah - so instead of assuming a whole provider issue I should have followed that trace with one directly to he.net - which then yields

Based on that and my previous (original) - how would I then pinpoint that it was the specific server, in order to know who to direct an inquiry to?

Moderators - please adjust the title of the thread appropriately so I don't mislead about this provider. My apologies.

I noticed the HHO page half loaded this morning then quit on me and I could not get back. I was wondering what's up. Hopefully they'll have this fixed soon, but as others have said it looks to be just a problem with that one server.

Well, it's reflecting a slight change, but as you can see it's still not resolving. Based on the updates to the Fastservers outage thread, it does appear that this is a routing issue, correct.

Incidentally - I believe NOC24's server that has been such a problem may also be affected by this apparent he.net backbone issue.

Yep, they were having some problems. They have been working on it and it has been fine for me now.

I'm not sure how to beef things up to prevent this again. Even if I had a script back up and duplicate the database, I'm not sure I'd want a second database to record new posts, and how I'd then switch back. Seems that would be ugly?

I can get two servers on different networks to get to the database, but if the databse is on the dead network, the 2nd server won't be able to connect to it.

If anyone has any suggestions, I'd love to hear 'em.

Chicken: I know that forums.amd.com is a 2-server failover-type load balance, and they use some weird setup of slave-master mySQL arrangements.

Whatever they have works great - Whenever one of the machines is down, the other takes over fine, and when both are back up, the differences in the DB are resolved.

Invision Power Services directly manages the forum, perhaps you could inquire with them.
