Doing the end of year accounting, and I was wondering if the IRS tracks the amount of money in paypal accounts. Anyone have a clue or where I could check up on it?
I wasn't sure if even though paypal isn't technically considered a bank if the government tracks the money in my account just like they would a bank account.
If no, do you think they report my earnings and total account status if I'm signed up for money market?
Thanks
Jeremiah

I found this site, but it doesn't answer the question directly.
http://www.taxes.com/eBay.htm
My bank issues a notice/warning that they reported my income/transactions to the IRS. And the companies I contract program with do the w-9's. I'm wondering if paypal would be required to do some form of notification if they do report it.

Well, I know that in the US, All my bank accounts have required a Social Security Number (SSN) and any jobs I have had in the past also required this. And now even Googles Adsense Program requires this for tax info. I have never given my SSN to paypal. And that is how your taxes are done.

yea, that's a good thought. I wonder if they can just use the physical address though.

Come to think of it. I have had my PayPal account for 2 years 3 months now. And never got anything in the past. Dunno, I will have to ask my accountant this time around..
Sure is nothing like a good ol Audit from the IRS lol

If you gave paypal your SSN, they have access to the info.

Nope never did never will, I will never put my SSN over the net no matter HOW secure it is..
Certain things were just never meant to be online, and your SSN is one of them.
