Equinix

I was watching the show "the screen savers" on techtv a while ago, and they had a tour of the datacenter of the company "equinix", and i have to say I was very impressed with the technology they have built into the place.

Now.. I seriously doubt i will ever be rich enough to afford even a month of connectivity with them, but i just want to pool the wht public to see if you guys have any comments regarding their company, and if you have been so lucky to be a customer with them, what comments do you have regarding how they conduct business, and how the network functions?

Thanks

love,
ub3r

P.S.

You can download a tour of their datacenter with the following links

I visited on of their biggest datanceter in Secaucus, NJ and I was quite impressed. Evertyhing is build with quality in mind. No, I am not talking about the game room

I will be signing up a contract with them soon. Their prices are actually reasonable. Yes, they are definitely places where you can get cheaper cabinet price, but then the quality may not be on the same par. On the other hand, I have found my contract pricing to be cheaper than some other places.

In terms of connectivity, they do not sell bandwidth, etc if that's what you mean. You will be paying cross connect fees to providers in the datacenter.

were you allowed to take any pictures?

Do they offer free in person tours? I would love to see it in person.

pictures? No, of course

The tours are free. You need to schedule it with your sales person. Can't just show up there and ask for a tour

You can only take pictures of your cabinet/cage at equinix's facilities, none of the other good stuff. Yes, Equinix does have some great facilities, including game rooms.

We host in Equinix Chicago and I would say we are impressed. Their security is pretty good there as well.

Well, that's good to hear. I'm planning on taking a tour of the facilities one of these days. If all goes well, I'll be hosting in there as well.

Good choice.
It's awsome. I can give tours myself to anyone I wish. It's part of your contract. As long as you have access you can tour the building to your clients before they host with you.

Equinix is a TOP notch multi-homing facilities. And as far I'm concerned it is the only place to put your servers in the world.

We put all of our main systems (including our colo and dedicated customers) in their original facility (in Ashburn, VA). Right next to Google and the rest.

They are good and they know it though. They will charge you for everything if you go straight through them. Reboots are $75, cross connects are $250 (which you need to get bandwidth).

You ask about their business conduct. Well put it this way. The FBI wouldn't put their systems their if they didn't think they were legit.

PM me if you are in the Northern Virginia area and you want a tour. No sales pitch needed. :-)

I was pushing 200-300mbits out of Equinix in VA.....but moved most of my stuff out due to some of the techs there having no idea what's going on.

They had a lot of router issues, for example 80% lost packets, and the tech tells me "ah that's a simple fix, 1 sec" while on the phone, and then he did something or another and my whole feed was down for 4 hours until another tech could come in and help him. In the end, the "real" fix took approximately 3 seconds.

While I agree that was my only problem with them, and their network is the most superior I have been on, some of their "night" guys need to get a clue, obviously.
