Hi,
I guess we could do with a few more moderators, we used to have a few but I think they've vanished now. Anyway, if you're a God and would like to have moderator permission added to your status then send me e-mail, with a little about yourself and if you any connections with hosting companies. I will moderate the board as much as I can but due to timezones it doesn't work very effectively. Another benefit is that you choose your own status line and you can spam.

Matt,
I think it would be helpful if you outlined the duties and responsibilities of moderators. For instance, as the need arises, can they:
ban users
move discussions to other forums
delele single posts and entire discussions
close discussions
any other duties?

Yes Matt... Duster made a good suggestion.
It would be useful if you outlined all the responsibilities you expect from your future moderators.
I am almost 10 hours ahead of your time zone. I would be interested to be a moderator if it helps, but I would like to know in advance what is expected... so that I may be able to make a decision on this.

I'd love to do it Matt, as you can see I have little else to do... firing off an email. Connections... connections? We don't need no steenkin' connections.
VOTE CHICKEN - WHT MODERATOR 2000
As moderator I will:
ban users (MUH-WAH-HA-HA)
move discussions to other forums (see above)
delele single posts and entire discussions (see above)
close discussions (only if they relate to Alabanza, hee hee)
end world hunger

Any special requests?

YES! Don't run around nekkid (or at least turn off your camera). I don't want to see any plucked chickens.

run around nekkid going "paaakak puk puk" would be a better idea
Me is a GOD too.. I guess its time for me to do some and and flamethrow to all the spammers, out there who dare to enter the Dominion of WHL.
Bleep, what is a God with out his godily powers. The dream would be true only if Matt gave me the powers.

Yeah !!!
Chicken won't ban you until you start acting COCKY around here
You get my vote for WHT Moderator 2000, Chicken... if you promise to make sure to keep your Uzi loaded and aimed at the heavy regular slammers !!!!!!
However, a little... just a wee little bit... slamming could be tolerated!!!
<whisper> I hope BC misses seeing this post
A warning could be privately issued by email to the slammer concerned before taking any action though... just an impractical thought
Acutally I kinda really like Matt's open policy in moderating this forum. Let things be as they are until things really go out of hand!!!
You know... after all the internet is all about free speech... and all that

learner,
With al due respect, this issue has nothing to do with free speech. That's a red herring. Any forum administrator has the right to set rules for the use of the forum. Asking or requiring that people follow those rules or go elsewhere has nothing to do with free speech.
In the U.S., the First Amendment refers to Congress not passing any laws that abridge it. That doesn't mean that anybody can say anything on any topic anywhere they choose, either face to face to in cyberspace.
A lot of people, especially spammers, like to mention freedom of speech when, in reality, the issue at hand has nothing to do with it.
If someone goes to a meeting of a chess club, the club is not bound to hear them talking about checkers, backgammon, or anything else. There has been no abridgment of their freedom to speak. It just isn't appropriate in all circumstances.
