"attempt to access beyond end of device"

Hi everyone

My server died a couple of hours ago, datacentre just got it back up and I found these lines in the /var/log/messages

I Googled but couldn't find much. Can anyone shed any light on what it might be?

Definately seems to be disk related, but what and why?

Thanks

Matt

Looks like a bad partition table or filesystem format. I definitely wouldn't trust this disk.

Thanks Jim

Something which backs up your theory is that yesterday a couple of mysql tables became corrupted without anything being written to them.

Would it be worth asking if the datacentre will ghost the disk onto a new one? Or is the problem with the data on the disk?

In the meantime it's being backed up to another disk every night.

Matt

I think that you'd do better to backup the data and restore to a new disk than ghost to a new disk - there's no telling what corruption issues might exist on that disk and you sure don't want to copy them over to a new disk and have the same old problems. There's a chance that the reason you have the current problems is that a failing disk was ghosted to a new one.
