ProFTPD takes ~30 secs to connect

All of a sudden my ProFTPD takes around 30 seconds to connect, not to do reverse dns (I believe I have it turned off since there's nothing about it in proftpd.conf), but to actually get a reply, it's a cpanel server.

Also, I switched to PureFTPD temporarily and one customer is having problems. Does anyone know how to prevent PureFTPD from disconnecting an idle user after 15 minutes? It seems to be timing out after a while if he uses cgi scripts to establish a connection and upload to ftp.

Do you have:

UseReverseDNS off
IdentLookups off

In your proftp.conf file? If not add them in and restart proftp. Should be faster then.

If one customer is having problems it could be a network issue on their end.
