Can SM tell us if RH ES is compatible with C-Panel, MySQL 4, php 4, Apache 2?

Hi,

As SM has RH Enterprise 3.0 available for about 2 weeks. Can ServerMatrix help us all by answering these questions. Their 'tech support' must have learned a lot so far from the people who bought RH ES and had issues with MySQL4, php4, Apache2, C-Panel etc etc.

SM, please help us all so that we can go ahead and order servers with RHES and C-panel.

May be a brief how to page can be very helpful desribing the issues and how to get around them if you are ordering server with RH ES and C-Panel and using MySQL4, php4, Apache2 etc.

Thanks for help.

Regards,

mySQL 4 won't run (our tests), 3.x does, php 4 run's fine, havn't tried apache 2, 1.x works however.

Some things in cPanel take some time to fix - mySQL dosn't install with your cPanel install for some resason, I think it's because cPanel uses RH 9 RPM's which are not compatable...

I think if we spent more time on mySQL 4 - it'll work but we we're limited in time to get the box setup.

From what i've heard CPanel is only beta for RH ES. Theres no RPM for MySQL4 since there were licencing issues between RH and MySQL which were not resolved in time.

I'm fairly sure they work, you'll just have to compile MySQL4, php4 and Apache2 yourself and it's not as hard as it sounds.

So basically if I order RH ES with cpanel I won't be able to use mySQL4 for a while? Until cpanel releases the version for RH ES?

I thought I read somewhere that the MySQL 4 issue has something to do with licensing. Maybe it was mentioned on the Server Matrix forum?

I havn't stayed up to date with the licencing and rh sort of hasn't interested me until now - can someone explain how the new licencing system works? I spose I could go look it up but im too tired havn't slept yet another story....

Is it just turning into something like Windows, or what are we really dealing with here?

There is lot of confusion at this time.
What we need to know is:

(i) how to get MySQL4, PHP4, Apache2 ?

and then

(ii) how to get them to work if we order a server with RH ES and C-Panel?

I guess we need this favor from hosts, experts or people who have already done it.

Thanks.

mySQL4, php4 and apache is already pre-installed with the server. I've just read somewhere in SM's forum.

I call the toll-free tech number, the tech guy told me that Redhat 9 will be terminated in the next 5 months, means there will be no support. He also told me that there weren't many customer to him to ask about the RH ES and Cpanel compability issue. Well, let's hope for the best.

Is it because of C-Panel or RH ES or ?

Who should be responsible for making these work?

Regards.

I just got another server from SM with RH ES and cpanel. Everything works fine but it's apache 1.3.29 instead of 2.

Anyone knows why Apache 2 does not work?

Who should fix this issue - c-panel or RedHat or host or ?

Thanks.

I don't get people saying that MySQL 4.0 insn't compatible, I just installed it from RPMs from mysql.com on RH ES 3.0. Just download the package and:

rpm -U MySQL-*.rpm

I only spent an hour on it, I am not going to put RH 9 RPM's on RH ES.
