Hi there, I'm presently looking for some remote work (although I may be flexible for regional travel in the northeast); I've spent the last five years in a combination of web hosting/service provider settings, dot coms, and enterprise environments. I am well versed in the areas of unix system administration, network engineering/architecture and systems and network security. Here's a little blurb documenting my skills in brief:
Operating Systems: UNIX variants, both System V and BSD derived, and others in between including, but not limited to: OpenBSD, NetBSD, FreeBSD, BSDI, Solaris 2.x, Solaris 7, Sunos 4.x, HP-UX, IRIX, NeXTStep, Linux.
Server Applications: Veritas Volume Manager, Veritas NetBackup, Oracle 8.x/8i, ATG Dynamo
Applied Networking and Protocols: Extensive understanding of data network protocols, including IP (TCP, UDP, ICMP), AppleTalk, and NetBIOS. In depth knowledge of routing and other networking protocols such as IPSec, SNMP, E/IGRP, OSPF, BGP, RIP, PPP, SLIP, 802.1q/ISL, QoS, CAR, VoIP/H.323. LAN topology expertise with standard, Fast and Gigabit Ethernet; Frame Relay with emphasis on enterprise networking. Extensive hands-on experience with Wide Area Network technologies, including Frame Relay, ISDN, and point to point circuits. Hands-on configuration and troubleshooting experience with an extensive collection of networking hardware including products from Cisco, Foundry, Netscreen, and Alteon. Design and implementation of multiservice networks providing the convergence of data, voice and video services.
Network Services and Application Protocols: Web servers (HTTP, HTTPS, SSL): Apache, Netscape FastTrack, publicfile; Mail services (SMTP, POP3, IMAP, various qmail-specific protocols): qmail, sendmail, cyrus, UW imapd, various other UNIX-based POP and IMAP servers; DNS: djbdns, BIND (4.x, 8.x, 9); DHCP: Microsoft DHCP server, ISC DHCPD; Authentication: Kerberos, NIS/NIS+/YP, TACACS+, Radius, SecurID, S/key, authentication against an NT domain; NFS
Programming Languages: Perl and shell scripting, expect, HTML, functional knowledge of C and C++.
Networking Hardware: Cisco routers (800 series through 7500 series), switches (1900 series through 6500 series with MSFC), terminal servers, VPN concentrators, wireless networking equipment, PIX firewalls, and load balancing equipment; Foundry switches and load balancers, Alteon load balancing switches, Netscreen firewalls
Monitoring: HP OpenView, mrtg, rrdtool, NOCOL
Security: Concepts: VPN/IPSec, security and attack mitigation/intrusion detection, network and system auditing, security system implementation throughout the enterprise, authentication and authorization; Hardware/Systems: Cisco PIX, CiscoSecure Firewall Feature Set, Cisco VPN Concentrators, ISS RealSecure, Netscreen firewalls
I am very interested in hearing from companies that may be interested in putting my skills to use. Please PM me with any questions, follow-ups, etc.
I look forward to hearing from you.
