I ordered WHHQ's Free Power Server last Wednesday,
Sept 20, and so far I am very displeased (to say the least) with their service. Here's an account of what I've experienced so far:

I was notified that the server was online at about
4:30pm, Thur, Sept 21. When I logged in to check things out, I discovered that the machine only had 64MB RAM, and a 8.7GB disk, which is less than the advertised 128MB RAM and 15GB disk. At 7:45pm, Thur, Sept 21, I sent a letter to
engineer@whhq.net detailing these problems. I have never received a response.

Our company has done alot of work preparing and promoting the opening of our server. Yesterday - Sun, Sept 24, was the first day we were open to the public. Until approximately 11:45am, that is, when the server became unreachable. I immediately tried to call, but only got voice mail. I tried leaving a message for technical
support, but was repeatedly patched into sales!? So I went to the website and filled out a support ticket). I also sent email to support@whhq.net and engineer.whhq.net. I even sent a fax. I never received a reply. 4 hours later, I tried again...still no one home. So much for their
advertised 24/7 monitoring? Our company's opening
day was ruined for what I've gathered (based on traceroute and ping tests) is a router/gateway problem with their network. Our machine did become reachable again - at about
12:15am, Mon, Sept 25. It was down for 12 and 1/2 hours!!!! And, it later went back down again, around 4am, Mon Sept 25, and our machine is unreachable as I write this.

So, BE WARNED!

Sorry

Sorry to hear of your troubles. Do they guerentee any type of a uptime??? I would suggest moving on. Theres alot of better host out there. You need better support than that, in the dedicated server ind. you have to have 24/7 live support or at least support that responds within the hour to make it...

Oh well thanks for the heads up for all the other webmasters out there. Keep us posted on what you do.

Good Luck

I almost signed up with WHHQ a few months ago until I called their sales and support people and noticed they knew nothing about dedicated servers. If you had done a search on these or other forums you would have known this before hand. Unfortunately not everyone is aware of these forums, which leaves the client at a serious disadvantage.

Hopefully you will leave them and move on to a more reputable host. Do a search on these forums and you will find examples of excellent hosts for dedicated servers.

Not to make light of your situation, but I says it once, and I says it again... "Just Pick The Color"... that told me all I needed to know, heh.

*wonders what color bgplayer picked*

Howdy,

I was burned a couple times and I know the feeling.

I got a dedicated server from a company and the specs where not what I paid for. I had an ongoing argument with the tech guy (who was rude as hell). I guess he assumed I knew nothing but after working with computers for years (and getting a computer engineering degree) I know a little

I ended up getting half my money back and getting outta there.

Now before I go with any host I research for hours upon hours checking references, the news groups, forums etc.

later

David

Web Hosting Headquarters
http://www.whhq.net/

You must avoid these companies offering, lease2own servers,
or host2own servers, or $99/mo servers.... I think
they may face the same or similar problem. These companies
lease their servers and they can not turn around and give
it to someone after 2 years...

Quoted from their web site at http://www.whhq.net/

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT!

Please be advised that, on December 28, 2000, the United States Securities and Exchange Commission asked the Federal Court in Miami, Florida to freeze all of the assets of Web Hosting Headquarters and its principals, and to appoint an emergency Receiver over Web Hosting Headquarters, alleging that they had defrauded investors and customers. The Federal Court granted the SEC's motion and appointed Christian R. Bartholomew as Receiver on December 28, 2000.

Under the Court's Order, the Receiver is required to and has taken possession and custody of the offices and computers. The Court's Order also requires the Receiver to investigate the business and affairs of Web Hosting Headquarters, including what funds were raised and how they were used, and the Receiver is currently in the process of doing this.

Aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Looks like I am going to have to move ALL my clients.

I must admit WHHQ is sh*t (don't even get me started) and I'm glad something is being done about it.

Nice to see the government cracking down on these types of hosting places.
