Thumbs up

Real Human Thing

I applaud Bush. I think it was a real human and nice thing to do for him to visit soldiers in Iraq and bring greetings on behalf of the nation.

It was so great to see those images on TV, positively surprised faces of men and women wearing an army uniform. And all the fun they had today there.

Best,

Well, of course, but AirForce One is well protected in the air. I'm not sure FedEx are planning to install latest decoys and arms available just yet.

True but even a very well equipped plane is a sitting duck when it's 500ft off the ground and someone fires a shoulder launched missle.

I'm sure the entire relative area around the landing area was locked down. Besides it was an unmarked craft that flew him in with a fighter escort...

I have no doubt that the area was secure.
Unmarked plane or not, I still say it was a high risk move. The chances even of a random mishap are pretty high over there.

Although, there were only a handful of people who knew about the visit.
I doubt they would have been able to clear too much of the area around the airport without arousing a lot of suspicion.

I would hope so. Otherwise the supreme commander is a very stupid person. Anyone at any level who is not afraid of going to the front line has a screw loose.

Bottom line is Bush went. How many other leaders have done the same thing?

I'm not a Bush supporter I just think it was a good move for the troops and ultimately it will probably get him 5 points in the polls, at least short term.

I think that he made a stupid move there, its good that he didn't die. If he was a General/President and he went to the front line to lead his army into battle that might be motivational for his troops, but i don't see how making them worry about his protection in an un-safe area is a good idea.

This is the second time Bush has done a risky stunt just to get in the news and help his campaign.(first was flying on a jet to an aircraft carrier)
